    college and reserves?

My wife and I are both prior service Army and we are both starting school in January with post our 9/11 GI bills. Do you guys think it would be worth it to join the reserves or NG?

** We only would do Air NG or AF Reserves, we both hate the army and want that nice chair force atmosphere if we go back

Since when can you not use the GI Bill while in the Reserves? That is one of the primary reasons people join the Reserves or National Guard so they can use it up front and not have to wait until they get off Active Duty.

Of course you can do both at the same time. I'd recommend. I was a full time grad student, held a full time job, and was a drilling soldier on the weekends.

Is it worth it? I think so. If I can, I have every intention of finishing out 20 years and retiring.

It is still a very personal matter though. If you want to leave the Army and go to the Air Force just to have an easy go of it, then the extra work involved may not be worth it to you.

Then those *******s lied to me. They said i couldnt use my Gi bill and be in the Reserves. I guess i dont expect much integrity out of a recruiter much less an Army one

Doesn't it take three years of active duty for your gi bill to mature? Maybe you are thinking of tuition assistance which the reserves get. Helps pay for school and stuff like that but I don't think it's the actual GI bill.

Go talk to a prior service recruiter and get an interview with the local unit(s) you would be interested in joining. Go on a drill weekend and talk to the guys drilling and see if it's something you'd like to be apart of.

There are a lot of benefits to being a reservist; being apart of a unit, some extra income, Medical Tricare Reserve Select, reserve retirement, etc. But you've got to decide if it works for you. You may have to go to MOS school and sign up for some obligated drill time.

You could also talk to the ROTC programs, If your going through college might as well get paid for it.

Something i was told to keep in mind was if you're getting any disability from the VA you would have to either subtract your disability or your drill pay from whichever one is higher.

                        hell ya dude.

However, I just got a really interesting phone call from an Army retention/recruiter. I think that ones worth its own thread though.

This is correct, every year you get a letter in the mail from the VA asking which pay you want to keep.
