ALL THE SERVICES USE THE SAME 12 GENERAL ORDERS CORRECT? THANKS.

i have heard this but nothing is been confirmed to prove otherwise. i can only remember that the Army used to have 3. that is all you really need. but things have changed anyway.

NAVY/Marines
1. To take charge of this post and all government property in view.
2. To walk my post in a military manner, keeping always on the alert, and observing everything that takes place within sight or hearing.
3. To report all violations of orders I am instructed to enforce.
4. To repeat all calls from posts more distant from the guard house than my own.
5. To quit my post only when properly relieved.
6. To receive, obey and pass on to the sentry who relieves me, all orders from the Commanding Officer, Command Duty Officer, Officer of the Deck, and Officers and Petty Officers of the Watch.
7. To talk to no one except in the line of duty.
8. To give the alarm in case of fire or disorder.
9. To call the Officer of the Deck in any case not covered by instructions.
10. To salute all officers and all colors and standards not cased.
11. To be especially watchful at night, and, during the time for challenging, to challenge all persons on or near my post and to allow no one to pass without proper authority.



ARMY
1. I will guard everything within the limits of my post and quit my post only when properly relieved
2. I will obey my special orders and perform all of my duties in a military manner
3. I will report violations of my special orders, emergencies, and anything not covered in my instructions to the commander of the relief.


Air Force
I will take charge of my post and protect all personnel and property for which I am responsible until properly relieved.
I will report all violations of orders I am instructed to enforce and contact my immediate supervisor in any case not covered by instructions.
I will sound the alarm in any case of disorder or emergency.



I remember there being more for the Army, but it looks like they condensed it to 3. Navy I know is right... because im in the Navy .

man, i was talking to some soldier about them and he had no idea about talking to no one except in the line of duty..

Yup the army only has three. Basic training since 9/11 seems to focus more on quantity not quality. So I'm not so surprised there are soldiers who don't know there general orders. Now if there are NCO's who don't know this well then crap!

for some reason my unit has come up with a new "leader book" and it has 12 in it. why? i have no idea. as for NCO's not knowing them. well dam it has been so long since i heard them it's not even funny but i read them in this thread and it all comes back to me. i can say that most of the NCO's weere saying that there are only three of them and none that have come off active duty can remember any change from 3 to 12. and they forgot them also. NCO's today are more babysitters than leaders for some dumb arse reason. i for one do not subscribe to the babysitter mentallity around today. soldiers are adults and should be smart enough to contact their respective leaders of any change, but that does not happen. if they can't even call then they obviously don't care and will not show up either.

as for basic it has changed dramaticly from what the new soldiers are telling me. i joined when there was a soviet union and we focused on common tasks. not room clearing, convoy escort, live fire vehicle ranges, and so on. so basic is way better than when i went through. in the late 80's it was quantity more than anything then.
