    When other branches wear MARPAT.

I was under the impression that when other branches wear MARPAT that they must follow Marine Corps uniform regulations.

regardless of what practice actually is, any insight?

Nevermind, I found it. I knew it would be in MCO 1020.34g but I guess I missed it.

        >CH 5 2. The utility uniform is a working uniform and not appropriate
for wear in a civilian environment
. Wear of the MCCUU is authorized
while commuting to and from work via privately owned vehicles. However,
en route stops while off-base are not authorized except for bonafide
emergencies, such as medical emergencies, vehicle breakdown, or vehicle
accidents. Marines and Sailors may only wear the MCCUU at off base
establishments when using drive-thru services such as ATMs, fast food
restaurants, or dry cleaners when they do not exit the vehicle. ALMAR

This all stems from a picture that I saw on the San Diego Firearm Traning Center's (in Poway) website of a Navy Officer in Desert cammies holding a gun up.

The only Navy guys that I've seen wearing MARPAT are usually Corpsmen (FMF) or crypto guys that are temporarily assigned to a USMC unit. If wearing MARPAT, they should follow USMC uniform regs.

The newer Navy uniforms worn by SPECWAR, SeaBees and a few other select units look very similar to MARPAT, but are more of a light green shade. They fall under the same regs as the super cool Michael Bay style NWU blue camouflage uniform, and the rules for wearing them while off base are not as restrictive as the USMC regs.

That's exactly it, very very very similar but when held close together the shades are different.
Also Navy corpsmen where marpat when attached to marine units but where navy dress blues during cerimonies

Your'e 100% correct. I remember looking at it and saying to myself that's a odd shade of MARPAT. Then I looked it up and itss called NWU type III. MARPAT has orange/brown shades mixed into it,while NWU has more " greens".

easily identifiable as well as the Navy digital woodland runs "vertical" and the MARPAT pattern runs horizontal.

The joke is that Navy woodlands run vertical because it is "slimming" lol

From what I remembered, some officers thought they were exempt from some of the rules, so it doesn't surprise me a Navy officer was seen doing that. But you're right, when the Navy wear our cammies, Same rules applied

Run a set of Marine cammies through the washer enough and they'll look like the Navy pattern too.

We had a dirt bag that had "snow" BDU's. He was finally told not to wear them.

I've seen USAF CCTs in Desert Marpat. Not sure the story behind it however
