    Soldier needs help

Alright you lot, we don't leave a fallen comrade, and that includes family.

This was passed on to me by my leadership. This isn't my Soldier nor my 1SG, but that doesn't mean I can't help!

A U.S. Army Soldier's son is sick and the family needs help for medical care. The Soldier's 1SG is going above and beyond to take care of his Soldier; a true NCO! A big Hooah to him, and a personal donation inbound from me!

Letter from the Company 1st Sergeant :

    Hey,
The following is a request for help from a child in need. The link says
it all, the child's father is a Soldier and I am his First Sergeant. I have
donated but I can't do it all, so I am going to make it interesting.

I will be running a 1/2 Ironman distance Triathlon in the mountains of Arizona
    (http://www.deuceswildtriathlon.com/e...anaz-triathlon) in June. If
we can raise the $1500 this kid needs for the DNA test I will shave my head
into a Mohawk and dye it pink.
I know the bills will get more extensive so if we can double it before the
race I will also wear a pink TUTU during the run and bike portion of the race
then post and distribute the pictures taken throughout the race.

Please check the URL and try again or, alternatively, you can browse fundraisers currently receiving the most donations worldwide below.

No amount is too small (please disseminate for the widest coverage)

    Thank you all

    V/R
    C. MITTER
    1SG, --redacted OPSEC--

    (NOTE TO MY COMMAND)
My hair will be back in Regs by the time I am back in uniform

Baby Otto Scofield, lets help him out!

Sorry the kid has some serious health issues.
    But

Otto is the only child to Bryan and Bridgett Scofield. Bryan is a welder and laborer and Bridgett is a stay-at-home mother and supplements their income with art. Bryan will be taking off extended periods of time from his job to be with his son during the many doctor visits, tests, and treatments. The Scofields are looking for any possible support to ease the financial stress during this journey with Otto.

And if so, isn't the military one of the best employers in terms of needed medical attention for family members?

Does someone think that by someone else (so they say) saying they are in the military it exempts them from stolen valor (i.e. I claim to collect funds for my brother who I say is in the military but isn't, but then he's not guilty of stolen valor), and because the funds aren't for the claimant they aren't breaking the law either. I don't think it works that way.

Something just isn't right with someone in the military claiming their young child has medical bills they need help with.

Not for Army Reserves or National Guard

Uh. Why? I have troops that can barely feed themselves...Tricare is unaffordable for junior enlisted in the reserve component, outside of that there are not health benefits available to Soldiers and their families.

Tricare Reserve Select might be the biggest thing to keep me in the reserves.

$46 a month for a family for Reserve Select. That's like getting paid $500 a month just to avoid having to buy insane insurance by showing up to drill.

Did this actually go DOWN from last year? I was paying $50ish for just myself last year. Now it's $26ish for singles. I've been on orders and deployed since September so I haven't been paying close attention.

I think donations would be better served going towards signing them up for Reserve Select.

            Hello,
I was just directed to this site. I am the 1SG for this EN CO and while the event is over and the fundraiser very successful, I would like to clear up ANY misunderstandings. Most was covered above so I will hit the topic of insurance. First, while TRICARE Res Sel is available it is hardly affordable, but that is not the issue. This Soldier is a good Dad that has insurance and pays his bills and all that. That said, here's the deal. It was necessary to have DNA tests done in order to verify that the little guy actually has OI. Insurance wouldn't pay for these tests, but once he was "diagnosed" all would be good. The fund raiser was for these tests. I sent a follow up email with my freshly pinked mohawk (no pink tutu, not enough money). Thanks for the support.

•Member Only: $50.75 per month where did you get $26 from?

Wish I had seen this the first time through........would have been on it like white on rice. I have seen calgunners raise more for lesser causes in OT. AARKJ, is there still a need for this soldier?

Medicare is not for kids, excepting certain circumstances.
I think you are referring to medi-cal, which is for low/no income individuals.

Good luck to the little one OP
