On Post CCW?

Alright, simmer down! The title is misleading. I am not looking to carry on post while in uniform all day long (though I do believe we should be allowed). I am looking specifically for information covering the rules of CCW on post.

So far I have found AR 190-11 and AR 670-1.

AR 670-1 does allow for the CCW of a weapon while in uniform. AR 190-11 gives the facility commander descretion but is somewhat amiguous. Any other AR, DoD Reg, etc you guys can think of?



And why you ask. Actually its quite simple. I am in one of those great little AC/RC slots on a smaller instalation. The Post comander is pro-gun and is easily approachable. I asked at the gym the other day on his feelings on authorizing carry to and from duty while in uniform. Basically, if I can have my POW with me (registered on post of course), secure it once I arrive for duty (I have a bolted in secure locking storage in my vehicle), and then retrieve and resume CCW as I carry on after duty.


The post commander told me to do the research and present him with options and he will make a decision on if he will allow it.

EDIT: AR 670-1 2/3/2005 (current on USAPA even though a 2011 version exist) has removed any mention of CCW, but does not expressly prohibit it either.

It is most likely not going to happen unless you are an MP and it goes through the Provost Marshall's Office. Then you will only be able to carried your issued weapon concealed in the performance of your duties. I know this because I have had one issued in that manner. I also know that the DA Police on Joint Base Lewis McChord successfully petitioned to be able to wear their personally owned weapons to work, secure it and then draw their duty weapon. Again they were law enforcement so it was done under the control of the PMO. AR 190-11 applies to the securing of Arms Rooms and Ammo Points so it covers having armed guards to provide security for those. I wish you luck in your pursuit of this but again I doubt it will happen.

I have been stationed up at JBLM more than once, I am familiar with the DA police exceptions up there (its a load of BS). Just as point of future reference AR 190-11 covers all weapons on post and outlines the rolls of the PMO and the SC in respect to that. Chp. 4 specifically bans CCW on post, but later reads in a way that seems to allow the SC (Senior Commander) to over rule that and make acceptions as the SC sees fit.

Agreed. You can think Clinton for the final nail in that coffin (though arguably not the first).
