    Space A flying

Anybody fly space A? If so, did you wait long? Did you get the flight you wanted? We're trying to fly from Ramstein to Travis for leave next month. Any advice for noob space A users? Thanx.

Be on leave, be ready to have it all go wrong, and be ready to buy your plane ticket to get back on time. The narrow your vacation plans are, the harder it is for Space A to go right.

Check in as soon as you can (you reach leave status) & be flexible. You may be buying plane tickets or taxi rides to complete travel.

Also, check the listings for the previous flights- if you regularly see Cat VI and/or check-ins <T-48, you will likely get your flight.

OTOH, if you never see anything below Cat II or reservations booked a week in advance, don't plan on it.

From the FB page, Ramstein looks like Cat III at T-48 is do-able; however YMMV. I'd also check spacea.net which has a lot of info and base-specific advice.

Put your name on the Space A list 9 days before you leave, that will put you on the top of the list since the list is good for 10 days. Be prepared to be bumped, sometimes its a pain in the ***.

We are on day 4 now, yes, it is a pain in the ***. We signed up on the first and people that have signed up on the 25th and 26th started getting flights out today. In hindsight, we should have signed in, taken some day trips, then try and get a flight after a week. I feel sorry for anybody below CAT3, they have little to no hope of getting a flight anytime soon. I saw some real old retired vets that have been waiting days in the terminal, wish they had a way to bump those guys up.

I've never flown Space A, and there is reason for that. Maybe one of these days when I'm really retired, I'll try it out.
