I heard the VA does not rate for hearing loss, there motto is we gave your ear plugs, its your fault you didnt use them. I have Bilateral Hearing loss on my claim and got zero rating from it. Yet the tinitus i got rated a 10% for, but its not really worth it, I had lost countless hours of sleep because of it and have had to move really close to freeways in order to drown it out and finally be able to sleep at nights.In memory of Ricky Lee Turner, January 16th 2009 Baghdad Iraq

Oh yea, they still do give 10% for tinnitus. I got rated for it last month. Just make sure you let them know that you were exposed to artillery and other types of loud explosives.. which I did since I was an 0311. Not sure what the current law is on that, but from what I just heard, background investigators can now look into military disabilities whereas before, they couldn't and the applicant didn't have to disclose any service related disabilities.Last edited by coyote43g; 07-24-2014, 9:00 AM.For a combat soldier, the difference between success and failure is your ability to adapt to your enemy. ^^^ There are current LEO's that I know with fairly high ratings from the VA. I am surprised they were hired, unless they did not disclose their injuries.sigpicComment

Update from my experience this far filed under the benifits delivery at discharge using the DAV as my rep. June 19th filed with the local VA rep for fort Irwin. July 1st VA accepted the application for compensation. Says on ebenifits under review with a estimated completion date of May 2015 to January 2016. Talked to the rep should have any appointments necessary for the claim mid August to early September reality who knows. Hope it helps any of you out there I will update with any new movements with the claim.Comment

How do they check for tinnitus? It seems like something that's hard to prove or disprove. Most of my hearing loss happened when my m16 blew up and shooting the at-4s. I don't even care right now about compensation but I want them to cover hearing aids when I need them."People sleep peacefully in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."Comment

When they tested my hearing they put sensors on my head and ear buds in my ears. They played different tones through the ear buds, and a computer is able to tell if your hearing is normal or not. I was told they can also detect tinnitus with this method. When sending in my notice of appeal, how detailed should I be?
There's so much contradicting stuff online.
I specifically list each claim I am disagreeing/appealing with correct? Do I provide evidence/proof/details of why I am appealing?Comment

^^^ Be as detailed as possible, and add any evidence you have to support your claim. Doctors opinions / findings work well in my experience, as well as any test results you might have.
I am already service connected on all my issues, but I am appealing the total rating that I received. In my appeal letter I explained why I thought the rating was low, and now I am following up with doctors to gather more evidence to support my claim.
I went to the VA this past week to update my file, and was flat out told by the guy helping me that it's a game. The VA almost always comes back with denials or low ratings initially. He stated most people have to go through the appeal process, so don't get discouraged. Good luck...sigpicComment
