Buying guns with PCS orders process?

Can someone tell me the whole process to buy a gun in CA with military PCS orders?

I'm not a CA resident, but I have my PCS orders. Thanks!

Your PCS orders, Any state drivers license, and proof of residency I think were all i needed. For proof of residency you can use a utility bill with your name and address on it, vehicle registration, rental/lease agreement, etc...

Your PCS orders will meet the requirement for Proof of Residency.
If you are buying a handgun you will need a secondary Proof of Residency. All of the above listed by SSgt. will work.

OK, I got some utility bills (gas, electric and cable) and my orders.

Isn't the process more complicated here though? 10 day waiting period? How does that work? What else is there in the CA process?

        Thanks.

the 10 day is 10x 24hours starting from the time the dros. So if you buy at 1200 on monday, you can pickup next thursday 1201. Also if the handgun or long gun don't come with a California approve lock you'll have to buy one before they can release to firearm to you. I've seen some shops will sell a lock to you for a dollar then buy back for a dollar. If not buy a cheap one cali approved one from walmart, the reciept must be within 30 days of the pickup day. Take back and refund. Or sign affildavit that says that you have a safe.

Is this something you have to arrange ahead of time, or do they keep a stack of forms that you can sign. Also, would a gun locker count as a safe and meet the requirement? I have a gun locker.

Thanks for all the help. I bought several guns last year and I figured living in CA would slow me down, but I guess the only extra problems are the 10 day wait and a lock. So, I may buy another gun soon.

Bring the owners manual or a copy of the receipt for the safe.

Safe affadavit does not work for handgun purchases. You will be required to either provide a lock with a receipt < 30 days old, or buy one from the dealer.

don't make it up with your small mind,

As long as your Permanent Duty Station is listed in CA you will be fine. You will also need to provide some form of proof of residence in CA(DL, gas bill, etc), base housing should also work provided you comply with base regulations to personal firearms.
