    Military bureacracy is legendary...

...not that it's exclusive to the Army, though.

They want to see if you went out and started smoking dope as soon as you finished training.

That's exactly what they're checking... well, one of the things.

How far out should they let slide? One month? Six months? If it was six months there would be somebody complaining that they were out of AIT only six months and ONE DAY... why do they need a physical? Solution: Everybody gets one.

Regs require that EVERYBODY going on any kind of voluntary AD tour get a physical. For a couple of years I was getting them every six months.

The thing you need to learn about the Army bureaucracy is that the regs apply to everyone the same. They can't say "PVT Snoopy just came from AIT, he's healthy" because as soon as they do you'll have cancer or something and they'll end up paying for you for years which isn't in their budget. The RC has to budget for people they bring on AD. If you're sick or get injured they have to not only pay to treat you, they have to pay you while you're being treated.

You need to get over the idea that the Army is there for your convenience. It's not. You're missing one paid day? Be glad you're getting any paid days, and drive on.

If you don't like the Government regulations go out and get a job in the private sector.
People need to understand they are not entitled to a job just because they were born. You have to show up and fight for a position and then prove you are worthy of staying.

I love the drug test on Thursday and the suprise test Monday morning. I have no desire to share a fighting position with a stoner.

He's in the Army hence the question about the military issues. duh. and don't tell me that private companies don't have BS rules and regulations also.

PHA is a big thing these days. without that being done you cannot attend any schools at all. it's a show stopper.

I can actually get civilian employment. I withdrew my application to an $80K job (one I had 3 progressive interviews for, including a lunch interview) so I could commit to this E4 pay grade so I could gain some MOS experience.

If this falls through I will have learned my lesson.

Different pots of money, different requirements. The orders sending you to driver's training are probably from a unit's MUTA allotment, the orders for work are from something else... ADSW or something.

The orders requiring the physical are longer than the ones that don't, right?

I forget the details but I think it's any orders over 30 days require the physical.

You should also see them cut orders for only 179 days, with a one day break in between sets, because otherwise you qualify for veteran's benefits and some other stuff.

they cut orders off like that all the time. usually the Soldier will not get full BAH and other stuff. IMO the one day break in orders is a way higher can screw a Soldier out of money.

as for a physical i went to BNCOC for 44 days straight and no physical. i did have to pass my PT test which is no problem.

One way to look at it. The other way is that if they didn't do that the Soldier wouldn't be getting any money at all, because they couldn't afford to bring him on AD.

Also, tours less than 180 days can be approved at a lower level than those of 180 days or more.

I love looking at these old posts of mine.

I come here to post an update following a significant milestone I recently achieved.

So yesterday, what I basically did was LOG ON to my computer, and "APPROVE" My Board File for MAJOR.

Now my data is open for review and consideration for MAJOR. That will all be finished some time by the end of 2026.

I was passed over for BELOW ZONE promotion last year (early promotion), and I presume I'll just be another run of the mill selection this year.

I was sort of bummed a buddy of mine got early promotion last year. We commissioned at the same time, and I was his company commander when he was a Platoon Leader. It stings, but at least I haven't had to salute him in uniform yet.

                            *********
There is a $6000 upside. Three years ago I signed a $10K retention bonus for 3 years for Captains and Majors in my MOS. That expired last month, and I just started the process to renew it for another 3 years at $10K.

HOWEVER!!!!!!!!!!! The USAR doesn't need majors as badly this time around, and it's only for Captains. So my buddy will be making around $4K more than me this year based on Rank, but I picked up the $10K one last time.

Before there was Polymer there was Accuracy.
