Just saw "Battleship"

LOL, what a joke. I didn't go in with high expectations but some of the "storyline" hi-jinks were insane. I think the one that got me the most was the loser 26 year old kid joing the Navy as a LT (O-3).

That being said,

It's worth the money just to see the Might Mo' blow up an alien shoulder thing that goes up!

I saw it on drill weekend.
some things that irked me.
1) When there was the soccer game agaisnt the Japanese they were waving around Rising Sun flags. Huh??????????????????????? Yea, let's bring back WWII.
2) When they handed out medals our hero only got a Silver Star. A Navy Cross was also give to one of the deceased.
3) When the Adm. was handing out medals he said words to the effect that he only had time to discuss a few people and given them medals. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had to stand in formation while our BN Commander gave a little speach about those who got perfect PT scores, and gave them army achievement medals. These movie guys SAVED the world, deployed a retired battleship in 24 hours with essentially no crew, and they only had time to mention two saliors?????

So it basically was exactly what I expected.

Another Navy propaganda movie.. The person who wrote the script probaly still cant believe Hollywood and the public fell for it...Hollyweird is def thirsty for ideas... notice how all of these SciFi movies look like Transformer movies now??

The movie as a whole sucked but it was worth a watch. I liked how the made the invaders somewhat humanesque ... and the blonde daughter well.... :drool:

This is a common narrative, but it's not accurate at all. The problem is that the movie studios have become risk averse and over the last 10 years have been trying to hedge their bets by going with less risky ideas and stick with more formulaic ideas with the hopes that they will pack the seats more reliably. This has obviously both worked and failed at times and the result is mostly sequels and remakes of already successful films.

Premium networks like HBO and Showtime along with the independent industry is where the risky ideas are being put to go use.
