    Selective service Q

I was talking to some friends the other day, and somehow the converstaion turned to selective service, and have I registered yet. I said I got a letter about it and it said "please keep this as legal proof of your registration, etc, etc"

There is nothing on the letter that said I need to mail anything back (unless the info is wrong... which all of the information is correct), but my friends insisted that I still needed to send something in or register with something

So do I need to do something else? or are they wrong?

First step is to check with sss.gov here: [LINK]

It's very possible you signed up and don't remember... or a parent registered you. I don't remember registering, but I did.

Edit to add: If you're not in their system, and are still under 25, then go here and register... problem solved.

If you're registered to vote, you've registered for selective service. I remember doing my first security clearence paperwork when I joined the Army, and they made a big deal because I was not registered... I was 17 at the time. I've done more than my 8 years service, so I am no longer required to be registered for selective service, and if there was a draft, I'd be ineligible (but things got that bad I'd be a volunteer anyway)

No prob... if you ever apply for a job that requires proof of Selective Service, you can use that link to provide them with your number. I printed the confirmation and put it in my file with my birth cert. social security card, and school transcripts.

              yea, go here:

if you you registered your name and registration number will come up. Print that off and you are golden.

Also, for anyone else reading, if you don't register for all time down the road it will haunt you

if you want something from the government you will be exluded.
If you don't register and in 20 years you:
want to be a cop, nope
want some sort of student loan, nope
want to enter some sort of federal program, nope
want to simply enlist when you are 28, nope
Before there was Polymer there was Accuracy.

Or you could be a man, join the military and not worry about no selective service bs. Just saying....

I kept getting selective service cards at the post office at my first duty station. I was putting shizz on there like "I'm not registering" and "Gone to Canada," then sending them back. Eventually they stopped mailing them to me.

The selective service needs better quality control.

I received a "reminder" notice while i was deployed to afghanistan. I had been active duty for two years already and the mailing address wasn't forwarded from my home address. It was directly mailed to our FPO/APO.

Under the "reason for ineligibility" box, i wrote "Active duty. Already deployed."

You should have said "come and get me"
