Help with format for a overseas military address

Hi. I need to know the proper way to fit this into a standard format USA address:

The address I have is 3rd Recon, Unit 36180 FPO AP 96602

If I understand correctly this is how it should be:

    Address1: 3rd Recon
    Address2: Unit 36180
    Country: United States
    City: FPO
    State: AP
    Zip: 96602

I am a bit unsure because I am sure the guy who gave me his address said the City should be the unit...but then the rest wouldn't fit. Please can someone help. Thanks in advance!

    3rd Recon, unit 36180
    FPO AP 96602

Thing is, I have to fill this in on an automated shipping system, so the fields for city, state etc, have to match up exactly.

3rd Recon, Unit 36180 is the address, broken up in two fields if they have address lines 1 and 2.
          FPO is the city
          AP is the state
          96602 is zip

We definitely had DHL deliver packages from christmas in the middle of august. All beat up and retaped with yellow DHL wrap. Personal mail in Afghanistan was rare, but we got "any soldier any sailor" packages every damn day.

Seriously people? do you think we really want your half-used hotel shampoo? send toilet paper and maxim magazines!
RIP Cpl Contreras, Sgt Atwell and LtCol Raible.
