    GI BIll Related Q

I have about 23 months left in my GI BIll (used some of it in College). But with the way things are, I doubt getting my degree will really help me. I am looking into going to a Gunsmithing school in PA and I am wondering if I can use the remainder of my GI Bill to fund for this school. Does anyone know if I can do it? I've been trying to call the VA offices but they're so busy that I can't get through. Thanks in advance.

You'll have to ask the VA actually to find out if that particular school is qualified for you to receive the benefits for attending, not all schools qualify, but there are a ton of various vocational/ trade/ aviation schools and apprenticeships qualify in addition to the traditional colleges.

If you contact the school itself they might know if they have had vet students in the past. But past that, you'll just have to keep trying to get thru to the VA. I'd also recommend looking into taking some general machining classes in addition to the gunsmithing classes, should help you give you a more solid foundation in the basics of speeds and feeds, depth of cut, proper cutting angles for tools dependent on the material you're dealing with, along with proper set-ups, rigidity and repeatability is king.

Wish you the best of luck.

Do you have the old GI bill or the Post 9/11 bill? I know with the old one you could actually get paid by the bill during internships.

Thanks! The school in PA is a complete 16 month course in Gunsmithing and it does include machining. All their classes are focused on Armorer/Gunsmith and nothing else. THe classes are spent in a shop setting. I did check with the website and they said that they are taking the GI Bill.

Yeah as long as the school is accredited you should be fine. They now pay for trade schools
