    Wife's Getting Ready To Deploy...

    Hey guys...

So, I met my wife in the Air Force, back when I was Active Duty. I'm out now, due to injury but she's getting ready to head out for the "sandbox". I'd rather not say where she's going (OPSEC) but I'm actually glad she is headed to the assignment she's going to. There are worse alternatives, in all honesty. She'll be secure at the location she's going to but I think I'm honestly more worried about what could happen to her on-base, as opposed to off-base. I've heard some bad stories about what can happen...

...but I'm sure she'll be fine. (I keep telling myself that )

I took it upon myself to train her a little more thoroughly on the M9, so when she tested a few weeks ago, she shot "Expert". That made me a little more comfortable; I was really proud of her for that. I also got her a United Cutlery tactical pen and some Krav Maga lessons, although she even says she wished she had more time to master the techniques of Krav.

Anyway, she leaves really soon and I'm a bit "on edge". Just had a vent a little. Thanks for reading...

Good luck! Were you able to meet the rest of the unit? Or is she going individually?

She's going individually and replacing a Civ that's already there. The 1st Shirt has me on his radar and he's already sending me stuff for the deployed spouses morale events. I already know a lot of the people in her unit here but she's not really deploying with any of them.

          I'm sure she'll be fine; I guess if I didn't care about her, I wouldn't worry but I do, so I'm worried...

Maybe she will run into my wife. I love my wife but I also enjoy our time apart. I think it strengthens your relationship.

Well, we've only been married for about 1.5 years, so it's not exactly like I need "space", or anything quite yet...

...but yeah, there are some things I've been meaning to do around the house. I want to install new speakers in my truck and in her car. If I were to tear up the interior while she was here, it might cause a problem, so that might be an easier chore with her gone.

I'm sure she'll be fine. There's risks from all sorts of factors every time she steps out of the house. You'll drive yourself insane mulling over all the "might"s "could"s and "what if"s. It seems like she's stationed somewhere safe and pretty well equipped to handle herself. Take that for whatever comfort it affords and try not to drive yourself up the wall worrying about her, she's a big girl.

I wish her the best, hope she stays safe, and hopefully she's not over there for too long.

That has got to be tough. Best of luck to you both. I am sure that she will be fine. And you just need to keep yourself busy.

As long as she is never alone she'll be fine. My last time over as a civ contractor the ladies always went around in packs... never less than three.

And as with the rest thank you for your service, and thank her for hers.

Yeah, she's actually hoping to find a few women over there that she can pal around with. That's gotta be rough for the ladies; being stuck around a bunch of guys for 6-12 months.

I appreciate that. In my case, I only wish it could have been longer.

Yep, but depending where she goes there should be plenty to keep busy.

And yea, downsizing military these days a full twenty is hard to come by these days.

You ain't lyin'. After I got out, they started "force shaping" a lot of my friends out of the military. We lost quite a few good officers in that effort. I will say, though, that a lot of what the AF cut was "dead weight". Still, we had some people leave who never should have been cut; good people that the taxpayers paid to educate. It was definitely a shame...

In my case, they actually paid some of us to get out as part of the VSP program. I was going to resign my commission and fly helos for the Cal Guard as a WO. After my exit physical from the AF, those hopes were dashed...

I was looking forward to a much longer career.

I'm guessing she will be going to either Kyrgyzstan, Qatar, or Oman.
