If you're the SDNCO go mess with all the CQs.

Helps you, and them, stay awake.

Thank your neighbor and fellow gun owners for passing Prop 63. For that gun control is a winning legislative agenda.

I used to love messing with the CQs. Or, at least interrupt them playing Xbox.

One time as SDNCO I caught two Joes riding a MOTORCYCLE on the SECOND floor of the barracks. It was one of those little 50cc jobs.

Another time I caught an AWOL Soldier and a guy who was discharged in lieu of courts martial partying with their old platoon.

Another time the mother of a female Soldier in the attached support company called to tell me her daughter was committing suicide in the barracks.

Another time, out of the blue, the BN Cdr decided to have an alert like we used to do back in the day. Everybody had to bring their promask to a 0530 formation, less than an hour away. I was a phone calling fool while my runner was running thru the barracks and BEQ/BOQ.

            SDNCO can be fun.

Out of all the time I was on staff duty I never heard of the term SDNCO.

Is it the same as NCOIC?

Staff Duty NCO, as opposed to staff duty runners.

Yeah, I arrived here at Ft Stewart about a month before the unit redeployed. I was one of the only guys without a profile preventing me from pulling staff duty. Day on, day off for about a month gets old quick. In my current position I am exempt from any DA 6, thank god!

It was CQ (E5/E6) and CQ Runner (E4 and below) when I was in. Then there was an Officer of the Day, "OD".

There would have been an E7 SDNCO and E4 or below SD Runner at Battalion and an SDNCO + runner at Brigade level as well, plus the Battalion and Brigade ODs.

If you were in a specialized company (Division MPs for example) you might not have had the Bn and Bde SDNCOs above your CQ, but there would have been somebody.

These days all those specialty units are rolled into "special troops" battalions and the like.
