Active duty non CA resident applying for CCW

Hey,
I believe I found out that I' am elligible for a ccw application even though I' am a resident of Idaho and plan to keep it that way. Has anyone on active duty here thats a non Ca resident applied for a CCW and was there any different forms or anything I should consider? I believe after doing some research I have a faily good chance with my statement the pakcet is sitting on my desk when I return stateside soon.

I know plenty of AD peeps that have CCW's. I had one when I was on AD (Washington State resident at the time,) but it was also a condition of my employment as a police reserve. Just apply at the Sheriff's Dept in the county which the installation you are stationed at is in.

Be cautious about carrying on base. Check beforehand to see if it is allowed. I believe that most bases do not allow concealed carry on base.

Personal firearms as a rule are banned from federal spaces such as post offices or base.

Personally... in my opinion... if you're active duty military, by simply having an ID card (Federal ID) that states you are active duty... that in itself IS your CCW.

If Cops can carry off duty then guess what? Military should be able to as well, better yet, military are never technically OFF DUTY anyway so it would make even more sense for them to be armed at all times.

But hey, it's just another BS rule I don't believe in and if they arrest you for carrying I'd declare jury nullification because I don't believe in restricting the 2nd Amendment, definitely not to those who protect that amendment.

of the two SEALs I know... they both carry, loaded and concealed and have no permit. Why? because they are targets while they are home, terrorists would love to catch a SEAL slippin on a bar walk with his buddies or catch them at wal mart with their family. And somehow I think they're a little better trained than a cop who can carry all the time.

A CCW issued in CA does not allow a person to carry concealed on federal property, especially on military installations. Just unload it prior to entering the base and carry it in your vehicle per base reg's.

The State of California would beg to differ. The laws of the State govern when you come off the military intstallation and they require anyone not entitled under the Penal Code that carries concealed, to have a valid CCW. Now, I agree with what you say, but the laws don't support that belief. And let's be honest, there are individuals in the military that shouldn't be handling any type of weapon, on or off duty.

Thanks for putting that info in too. I contacted our Security Forces, there are no wepons allowed on base except transfering to/from armory for on duty secuirty or personel wanting to go to range etc... So I will have to leave her at home until after work which is not bad I don't like driving around in uniform anyways to hot in CA haha. I will probably just be on the safe side If/Hopefully when Im approved and just make it the first thing I grab when I get home to change. Does anyone know a good outside range? The 2 local ones don't allow rapid fire and no room for drills I want to do some of those 5 shots in 5 seconds within 5in group drills and prices firing supported, unsuported and some other techniques like being pushed on ground etc...

You can have all the CCW applications you want, but you are not going to get a CCW. Even California residents in Solano County can't get them. Idaho residents, no way.

I have talked with 3 that have gotten their CCW's in Solano County and they said they would offer any pointer or help they could.

By local I mean not 2 hours away from fairfield or Travis afb, Just some place Where I can shoot and practice some drills.

Not knowing the situation in Solano County, is the Sheriff not a shall issue individual? To the OP, being military may be an advantage in obtaining your CCW, but you should visit the CCW forum and get a feel for what the Sheriff of that county is doing for applicants. If he/she is anti 2A (i.e., like most of SoCal), then you may have a problem getting one. I know up at Beale AFB which sits in Yuba County, the Sheriff there is very much shall issue for CCW's for those that meet the criteria. Good luck.

ParadigmGuy, just telling him they are wrong without offering any guidance isn't very helpful. Are you referring to the missing stars on the OEF/OIF ribbons? What am I missing?
