I left with my parents roughly an hour or two after the ceremony ended. Keep in mind this was over a decade ago so things may have changed, plus it may vary post to post.

At a minimum you will need to receive your DD214. This will all be explained during your outprocess briefing, which may be before or after your graduation ceremony. Chances are good you'll be able to leave within a few hours of your graduation. You can also rest assured that your post is well-equipped to deal with graduating AIT privates.

Once you have received your DD214 you are off active duty and should check in with your recruiter or your unit point of contact. Normally a sponsor is assigned to introduce you to the unit. If you are in the National Guard you return to RSP until released to your unit.

dude go home is what i did. i reclassed in 96 and had to outprocess the day before. after that it's off the airport, your car or whatever to go home. all your out processing should be done prior to graduation. as for active duty pay DFAS knows when your orders end.

                ^this

They will usually ask you 30-40 days in advance how you plan on leaving if you are NG or USAR . After the ceremony is over and you get back to your CTA , they hand you the DD214 and certificates , you are free to leave upon signing yourself out.

I think you leave the same day to go home. I'm Guard but I was marched to three more weeks of training after my OSUT then left the day of that graduation.

Hmm I recall that I had to arrange travel from South Carolina back to L.A. and I think I left the next day. You should already have a POC at your reserve unit who can tell you the drill schedule. I just showed up (early) at the next drill after I got home.

Enjoy the last bit of your ADT days. It will be over before you know it and you'll spend years talking about it, kinda like high school.

Stay squared away and motivated, even if you see people in your unit who aren't.

You don't get 10 days to report to your unit. The next time you report is the next unit drill. So call your NCOIC or squad leader to see when the next date is etc.....

Seconding the "call your NCOIC or POC".

Please call, there's nothing that irritates a PSG or SL more than when a soldier either doesn't show up, or just decides to pop in whenever they want.

My latest nightmare is a soldier that showed up at noon on the second day of drill, in civilian clothes. While doing the whole friendly "welcome to the Army" ****, I asked when she's shipping to Basic. "Oh, I already went to Basic and AIT" WTMFF? WHY AREN'T YOU IN UNIFORM?! *insert bs private excuse* (I pretty much automatically tune out while I'm trying to come up with something clever and ridiculous to say). I was stopped in my tracks when she said she was living in a shelter. How the crap does a soldier end up in a shelter less than 3 weeks after leaving AIT? Anyway, the PSG, 1SG and CC got involved and things should be getting figured out.

Moral of the story: Call your NCOIC, we can do more than just tell you where the unit drills and what uniform to show up in.

I mainly wanted to know because 1) I want to leave with family and 2) I want to take a few days getting back to CA.

I've already drilled twice, and am in contact with my platoon SGT, and top Sgt. All that's taken care of. I'm 39, going to renew my police certificate when I get back and look for LEO jobs again, or financial related jobs that require TS/SCI.

I'm not going to be showing up out of uniform or late.

Speaking of which one of my squad (being a squad leader) really pissed me off yesterday (actually, everyday). He never does his class work, he screws around, and comes up with excuse after excuse to put off doing things. I nearly kicked him out of his chair when he fell asleep in class last week.

I had to pull teeth so that "I" could help "him" prepare for tommorrows test. He already tapped on one exam and is on academic probation, and this next exam is 5 hours. I expect he will fail again, and if he does I would much prefer he fail the second time and just get pushed back to another company.

He's not even the worst of them, and these MORONS are walking around with TS/SCI clearances and going to be the ones keeping tabs on the enemy.

                            HOLY CHRIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i stayed in missouri for about a week after i graduated. you dont have to actually report to your unit til the following scheduled drill (unless otherwise told to) you just have to contact your unit.

what is your MOS? and where are you at? what unit will you be reporting to?
