    Baker Boys documentary

    Just finished the 4 part documentary on Netflix entitled "Baker Boys", about a unit from 3rd ID (Mech) that deployed to Iraq in 2008 for the surge.

    I thought it was well made, it was nice to see a (somewhat) uncensored outlook on the war by the guys over there. It's funny to see that a lot of the same thoughts/feelings that they had were the same as a lot of ours back in 2003. The more things change, the more they stay the same I guess.

    Has anyone else seen it? I recommend checking it out, post your thoughts here.

      I think I've seen it. Is that the one where the one troop was commenting on that he hoped people back in the States appreciated what he was doing, and if they didn't "f*ck 'em"? If that is the one, then that that is a pretty good documentary.

        It was interesting. I would venture to guess that some in the unit volunteered for Afghanistan to get their warrior on. A couple of those guys were not happy in the role of civil servant.

        The most interesting piece was the comment about believing the Iraqis in Salman Pak were not willing to work for anything compared to the Iraqis in the Cahill COP AO who wanted to work hard to change and improve their country.

        Sad. I would think that would reduce the effectiveness of the mission over time.

            We deployed in 2007. The filming took place in 2008. I was in Alpha Company.

              I served on Kelley Hill in Charlie 1/15 (Known as "Hard Rock Charlie" when I was there in 01 and next door to Bravo Company). I also served in Alpha which I heard they now call that "Hard Rock Alpha" right IronClash? Used to be Alpha Gators in 01. I liked the documentary a lot and thought it was well made.

                  Yea I know...stupid...

                  This used to be the breakdown

                  Alpha = Alligators (Gators)
                  Bravo= Bushmasters
                  Charlie = Hard Rock
                  Delta = Dragons (Later Delta was decommissioned so we were left with 4 companies includng HHC)

                  I heard they brought Delta (and possibly other companies) back? You tell me me. Always good to meet another dogface. =)

                  Btw, when I was in, CSM Moore was the 3rd Platoon Sergeant, it was cool to hear that he became the BN CSM and later Garrison CSM on Benning. I saw him in the documentary, the part where they were making fun of him? That is soooo him!

                    Yeah they brought Delta (Delta) back. My platoon got attached to them in Iraq to do their dirty ground work. I've got a pretty bad memory and I'm probably getting the unit wrong but 1-85? (I have 1-85 stuck in my head for some reason. If thats not them then ??) was taken down for some reason. It was that unit that was directly to the right of Alpha across the field.

                    CSM Moore always had that can of woop *** look on his face lol. Always looked so damn serious and pissed. I got a coin from him in the field though. I even had to talk to him in his office when I wasn't going to re-enlist. That wasn't fun.

                    I've been meaning to watch the video. My buddy has it so I'll probably ask him for it.
