When I got out in 98-99 I was depressed, the life I knew (rank structure, people I knew, everything...) was gone and I was working at ATT as a outside Tech and even the 14 hour days didn't take the empty away. What helped me get back into Civvy life was a bunch of old Jarheads and my ex-wife. You dont need drugs or alcohol, although I will have a drink with you if thats what it takes.

Accordingly, there are many sites that explain how to obtain books, military/medical records, information and how to appeal a denied claim with the VA. Please pass this information on to every Veteran you know. Nearly 100% of this information is free and available for all veterans, the only catch is: you have to ask for it, because they won't tell you about a specific benefit unless you ask for it. You need to know what questions to ask so the right doors open for you and then be ready to have an advocate who is willing to work with and for you, stay in the process, and press for your rights and your best interests.

good post. there are so many people out there to help Vets today it's great to know that if you need help it's only a click away on the internet.

i personally know several guys at work that have PTSD and are dealing with it. but there are many that are suffering in silence.

The VA guy at Travis is pretty good.
When I got out and had my Disabled paperwork processed he was a good resource.
I also got a pretty quick phone call when i posted my resume online once. He called to check in with me to see if he could be of help in anyway.

Nobody else knows what it feels like other than the ones that been there than that. That is why i decided to pursue nursing and hopefully get a career helping other vets at the VA hospital cuz when I was in the deepest darkest part of my life..other vets reached out and helped me. I am more than happy to return the favor to any veteran.
