    reserves question

I swore in and signed into the air national guard back in november. Appearently I have to do one last screening process at the airbase before I get my ship date. Now I have been trying to contact my recruiter so I can proceed and get a ship date but it seems like he keeps ducking and dodging me since I have been waiting 2 months and still don't have a ship date. So my question is what can I do? Im trying to get shipped before summer but cannot continue process due to no responses from recruiter. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    A. Join the Marine Corps

    B. Try face to face. This time of year, the recruiter could be traveling or is away. Show up on a weekday, at 10am or so. Put a note on his door or what ever you can do to insure he see's you have come by.

    C. If still no response, the recruiter has an office that answers to. A regional office, usually in the larger city of a metropolis area. Call another ( air national guard) office in your area and ask where their HQ is. Then call that office and seek help.

    D. Finally remember, it doesn't really matter what he says, as all recruiters are liars. lol.. Sorry I had to throw that part in!

    Good luck!!!

Unfortunatly I live over an hour away from the office so a surprise drop in is not really an option. Going above him seems like the only option I have. I was just checking to see if there was any other ways to handle the situation then going above ranks. And I chose Air Guard because i have family at the base and I got accepted to Sac state's criminal justice program and air guard offered the best benefits for going to school and still serving my country something the marines couldn't offer me. Thanks redpatch

Yeah I understand your hesitation to go up the chain, but if he's been blowing you off when your paperwork is in order that's all you got left. Some SNCO will reinforce to him that you package needs to get pushed. If you're worried about blowback to you, remember that you've already chosen your occupational field, there's not a lot your recruiter can do that's vindictive. Plus he's going to be nice to you until you get on the bus because nothing counts for his quota until then. He's probably just been doing some high school tours since they're ramping up for the Spring HS graduation.

            Good luck Rscan!

Never apologize for serving this county! EVER! The best thing you can do is go to school and have Uncle Sam pay for it! Be strong, physically and mentally. Best wishes!

You did the right thing in being proactive. My experience is recruiters aren’t on top of things with National Guard, and Reserves. Also, NG and AR aren’t all that reachable to begin with, and they don’t let the Activity Duty recruiters know what’s up.
Basically, recruiters are great at signing up late teen high school grads with no criminal history that do well on the ASVAB. If you fall outside of those parameters you might have to be a little proactive.
I had the fortunate experience that eventually my recruiters reached out to the Reserve recruiting liaison.
Also, as an NG don’t you have (or won’t you be getting) your MOS and unit predetermined?

The Guard was actually alot better Tha AD. I toldtge AD recruiter id join asap and scored high enough on asvab to guerentee any open job. But after 6 months of him not beingable to send me to meps and getting accepted to sac state I decided guard was the best for my situation. Until this incident the guard has actually been pretty good although like you said you have to come to them, they don't go out recruiting very much. And yes I have my pay grade and AFSC ( Mos) locked in already.

Exactly what I did. I emailed the captain and basically told him the situation and let him know my disapointment and if they could get me going if they could start my discharge papers so I could join a branch that would take me. Received a call within an hour. LOL

When I was a recruiter I had a High School staff call IG because I was late for a school visit.
