    Disrespecting Co's Wife

I had a conversation the other day with my fellow service members, most were under the impression it was against the UCMJ to disrespect the Co's wife. I told the they were crazy while it may not be a good career move, but the wife is a civilian and there is nothing that prohibits you from treating her like normal people .

    Was I wrong?

Under Article 15 of the Code (Subchapter III), military commanders have the authority to exercise non-judicial punishment (NJP). May fall under that category.

Your subject say "disrespecting CO's wife", well that will get in you in trouble. Might not be a punishable offense under UCMJ however your pro/con, fit rep, review can be affected. I have seen it happen. Marine flip a female driver in front of the building he works, come to find out, female was the XO's wife. Marine got a bad conduct mark and was talked to by his Gunny. Now if the spouse is acting like she/he is the Marine and yelling at you and stuff like that.....well, let loose.....I've have done that and made her feel like dumb ***.

that is just the authority of who can hold NJP, subchapter X is all the punishable offenses.

Seems a lot of wives/husbands/children seem to think they have the authority of their SO/parents rank and thus act "uppity". Definitely not good for your career if/when you get found out but imo, if they act the part...

Luckily I dont live in military housing so I dont have to deal with this.

Depends on what you mean by "disrespecting". There are plenty of things you can get in trouble for...

                      What he said......

It's kind of a vague question but in addition to the aforementioned bad marks/fitreps/etc you can get NJP'd for conduct unbecoming.... if you are drinking, they can go for drunk in public.... there are lots of things you could get slammed for. My guess that unless it was really bad you would probably only get a talking to and be on the boss' bad side but the potential for much worse is always there.

Anyways, there is nothing in the UCMJ stating that you cant disrespect the CO's wife. But, I wouldnt advise it.

The only punishable offense would probably as some one before stated would probably be conduct unbecoming. They can use that though for almost anything you do that they feel is unbecoming.

Just remember though if you make them look dumb by showing how wrong they are nothing should be done to you. And if their significant other/ your CO has a problem you just need to explain you were correcting their wife who was wrong.

We were the last boat to carry this flag in the original tradition. Now every boat carries it.The tradition is lost.

i don't see much reason in disrespecting a female anyways, CO's wife or not. If she's acting a bit foolish, let her look like a fool and continue on your way.
