Questions about Exodus and travel to first duty station

Currently at Fort sam and gonna graduate mid dec . Im taking leave and going home for a couple of weeks. Our PSGTs have not told us a damn thing about travel and as time goes on tickets only get more expensive. I was hoping you guys could help me out here. Should i buy tickets online or wait until whenever they take us to the Travel/Lodging building , and can i buy tickets through them? Im going from Fort Sam to san diego for two weeks then from San Diego to Fort Hood. Many of us here are confused as to the lack of info here , because they say the Army will only pay a percentage of travel fees but then later they say the Army will pay the cost of the trip one way.

If anyone could help me (and a few other "Soldier Medics" ) it would be much appreciated. Thanks

When I went to my first duty station I had to pay out of pocket and was then Reimbursemed. I went from Fort LeonardWood, Mo to Chino to Fort Hood. You travel to hood and go to the main Gate. They will give you a temporary pass and will direct you to the 31st something or another. You will be required to attend some briefs and one will show you how to fill out forms to get your money. You get TDY and some other reimbursements. Mind you tis was in 2002.

OP, did you get stationed at one of the Forts on your "wish list" or no? Should be graduating from Ft Sam sometime July or August.

That wishlist thing is a joke. 90% of the people here didnt get anything on their wishlist , but as you know , where you go is up to the needs of the army .

I had requested Carson , Lewis , or Sam Houston but i got ft.hood

Welcome to the army troop, lack of information will be a reoccuring theme in your army career.

To answer your question, dont buy any thing until you have approved leave. Yes tickets will get more expensive, but thats just how the cookie crumbles im afraid.
