Security Forces we keep one in the pipe, weapon on fire, hammer not cocked in our M9's at home station because of our LE role. M4's have empty chambers with magazines loaded. Downrange everything's ready to rock if your outside the wire. If not, empty chambers for all.

Ya know I was just thinking this morning simple answers like the above are ok but we should always be careful after Fort Hood and the Pentagon shootings to remember opsec. We sometimes forget being at home but the ole phrase loose lips sink ships still applies tmi is available sometimes :<(.. dang that intraweb thingy..."Men sleep peacefully in their beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."

On the ship, it was always condition 1 (round in the chamber and safety on) for watchstanders with the M9 and condition 3 (no round in the chamber and safety on) for rovers with the M16.Comment

That's funny, I never carried the M9 with the hammer back (nor is it designed to be carried like that.) And neither have I seen anyone in the Air Force carrying it like that.Last edited by epilepticninja; 11-01-2011, 9:48 PM.Former political prisoner who escaped on 9-24-23.Comment

Yup no way you carry the M9 with the hammer back, thats asking for trouble. Flipper is correct that the hammer for the 1911's stay cocked back.
I had my M9 on fire and ready to rock and roll and one in the chamber with my musket with it on safe today as I walked to the front of my base to pick someone up from out in town. Don't $%^& around in the wild west.Comment

My brother served two terms in Iraq and said that they USED to be able to carry their m9's, but a couple of guys were shooting apples of each-others hands... eventually a marine had a hole in his hand, and they all lost their sidearms.
Sorry that I didn't really input to your question, I just thought that story should be told'NUFF SAIDComment
