    Confusion over issued magazines.

Well here is something that I have been wondering about for a while. Is it against the law to use issued large capacity magazines in private firearms? I know the law sates that it is illegal to "buy, loan, give, etc" high cap. mags to people but what about the mags that the military has issued us? I honestly am confused about this and have been tempted to use them, but haven't in fear that I would be doing something illegal. Can any fellow service members enlighten me? Thank you.

    yes & no (situation)

do yo have a raw or featureless? if so then yes. if you have one with features & a bullet button then no.
"according to the law as written, it is not prohibited to "buy" or "receive" or "find" a large-capacity magazine."

Note that it is not prohibited to

    own a large-capacity magazine
    possess a large-capacity magazine
use a large-capacity magazine, in whatever gun*
repair a legally possessed large-capacity magazine
(and, necessarily, to acquire the parts to make the repair --
remember it only makes sense to buy parts kits for existing
    legally-possessed large-capacity magazines)

(* Old magazine, new-ish magazine, old gun, new gun - all irrelevant; remember also the 10-round limit on fixed magazine OLL, a different law.)

To repeat: Possession/use of a large-capacity magazine by an individual is not a crime, no matter how you acquired it.

You aren't kidding about that. I have a few that made their way with me when I retired. Can't do shizz with them here but stare at them as they sit in my safe.

Not anymore, they have effectively killed that program by changing the requirements. Need a letter from Base Commander stating need, and the one person on here that got the letter still got denied.

While we are on the subject or Military issued magazines...
When you get out, don't they want them back? Seems like they would.

When my son got out, he said they wouldn't take them...
                    Not in CA of course.

Depends. They are considered an expendable item. That and on deployment there are an abundant amount of mags. Some guys come back with alot more than they are issued and just turn in what they owe. Even then if they fill out a missing gear statement, the mags only cost about 8-9 dollars, if I remember correctly. Hell I opened up a sea bag a year ago that hadnt been opened since 2006 and there were like 15 mags in there I dont remember putting them in there they just were in there.
