Enlisted grunts

I'm wanting to hear from grunts, army, navy, air force, or marines, kids just in the service. Southern California. I want to set up private club guided deer hunts for four or six of you guys away from home for the first time. Drop me a PM if you've got a hunting license and a D9 tag. Private hunting club. No cost to you. Haha, officers need not apply. Just our way of saying thanks.

Location is Zone D9, out of Isabella.

We may be overwhelmed, maybe not. Anyway, I'll set you guys up two to a guide. No guarantee of success, the only guarantee is a good time.

Really, no one is called a grunt anymore.

I hear ground pounder or doorkicker more often now.

But, to your statement, yeah, you are wrong. A "grunt" can be from either branch.

Yep, I hear "doorkicker" the most often now.

As an Army Infantryman of 8 years, I can assure you that we are indeed referred to as Grunts on a regular basis.

As a Forward Observer in the 80s, we always referred to them a either Straight leg or Mech.
It was the difference between us walking or riding.

It used to be that way before they eliminated 11M (Mechanized) and just made everyone either an 11B (used to just be Light Infantry, now it's just Infantry) or 11C (Mortarman). We still call each other "Light" or "Heavy/Mech" or whatever, but grunt is still a used term.

I had a good Officer once. Had a couple of bad ones too.
The bad ones took charge and ran things because they were LTs. They had never done the job before but they were experts.

The goods one was out of West Point, When he got there he said: "SGT Smith, the buck stops with me but you run the show till you get me up to speed." I could respect that.

Sounds like a good one, true, and very uncharacteristically so for a westpointer. Wish I were as lucky. Oh well, we'll see how good I'll be, as I'm switching over to the dark side.
