Would a international counter terrorist team work?

    Hello,

I'm sure all of you have heard of Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6 whether it maybe through the video games, or the book.

My question is do you think a Multinational Counter Terrorist team would be effective? With so many different styles and tactics of training and language barriers that they would have to overcome? For instance i know that SAS, GSG9 and DEVGROUP, DELTA, GIGN,MOSAD occasionally cross train together, but what if you mixed up all those operators into a team?

Not likely. Aside from the issues you pointed out, there'd be one major obstacle - these people would ultimately be in different chains of command by different governments with different political agendas. Imagine training as a unit, and then having some people pulled out of the unit because their government doesn't approve of your next mission. Or how about multiple governments now being appraised of of operations, with the possibility of a leak increasing dramatically, whether because there're now many more people involved, or because the people in one of the governments didn't agree with some mission or the direction the unit is taking, and so felt like releasing some classified info. Also, if you think it's tough to get the US government to do anything, think of what it would take for SEVERAL governments to agree on anything. Now, imagine appointing the head of such a unit, or the command positions. Now that would be some catfight from hell.

The only alternative would be keeping such a unit outside of the governmental jurisdiction, and that's just not a good idea for a host of other reasons.

Wow! great points Nick! I forgot the idea of Governmental infighting and political views like you have mentioned, i think it would work like you have said. Only if it was compartmentalized outside all those governments.

I think the cloest thing to reality i found is this. And if Interpool does have a tactical team, which i wasn't able to find out much info on.

Interpol doesn't have any enforcement capabilities (and they shouldn't). All they provide to member countries are admin and support stuff. Info, intel, forensics, etc etc.

No, it would be stymied by politics and the ramifications of operating in different countries.
