If they don't pass a budget, or at least pass a Continuing Resolution, then all "non-essential" federal personnel will not be reporting to work after Friday until the do. We will still get our paycheck next Friday, 15 Apr, because they have to pay us for our work through the end of this week, and pay is one week off cycle.

I'm not worried about this at all, and neither should you. This has happened before, and the military has gotten paid. Not to mention no political party wants to be 'that guy' that didn't pay the military. It's political suicide.

Edit - and this is a shameful plug but it's worth mentioning, and somewhat appropriate for those Marines and Sailors out there in need. If you find yourself in dire straights because of money, TALK TO NAVY MARINE CORPS RELIEF. They will help you out a lot more than banks, sleazy loan companies, or robbing banks.

Military personell are protected from shutdowns like this. They'll pay us, wether they have money to do so with or not. It's happened before.

While you may be correct, many Federal employees are not part of the U.S. Military and do not have a pay guarantee in the event of a shutdown. Sadly all of this shutdown talk has an adverse impact on the economy since people stop spending when fears like this loom on the horizon.

Only time I did not get paid in 20 years was when a dirtbag Yeoman decided to leave my extension paperwork in a backpack in his barracks room and then loose his mind.

Finance center thought I had xfrd to civlant so they quit paying me.

At the same time they had switched to a new system and had MASSIVE pay problems.

After two months of trying to get it straightened out (and not getting paid I was running out of money) I told my XO "I have EDPO on Saturday. Payday is Friday. If I don't get paid I am not showing up. I need to look for a job that actually pays me. What are you going to do to me? The finance center says I am not in the Navy."

The new YNC called the Finance center (was in Cleveland at the time and I was an Ohio resident). Finance center gave him a line about how they couldn't fix it. His response was "OK well if you can't fix it then you won't mind if Monday morning I call Senator Glenn's office and start a Congressional investigation since this petty officer is from Ohio."

Got paid on Friday and had no more issues.

I bet the IRS collection agents don't shut down.

The Dems want the shutdown to happen. After being beat up so badly the past few months they are desperate to get media attention focused someplace else. No Obama & company would be in a position to point at the Speaker & start the "we have a plan but they demanded extreme blah blah blah. We are only protecting American jobs ... : /barf/

I doubt it'll happen. If it did happen, the financial headache on many of the junior enlisted might be a little overwhelming, knowing how a lot of people like to live paycheck to pay check beyond their means.

We have civ contractors that teach unit 1 and 2 down here....trig and microprocessors. We set up contingency plans today that if they dont come in on monday (already been told they wont if the .gov shuts down) then we can cover their classes. Problem is, those instructors count towards our manning, and we are not staffed with enough .mil to cover all the lost spots.

Its going to suck bad if this happens, with ripple effects that nobody has thought of yet, or probably cares about.
