    Recruiting Question

The son of a friend has recently expressed interest in joining the Army (Infantry). He apparently was picked up on a DUI some time ago, but it was dismissed. His recruiter told him that he might be DQ'd.

He's a good kid, a little lost right now. I think that the Army would be good for him. I'd like to help him get in. Can anyone point me to someone who can take a look at this kid's problem and possibly get him enlisted?

    Thanks in advance.

From what I've been hearing the Army is not approving many waivers right now because recruiting goals are being met and the force is undergoing a reduction in size. Generally, anything other than a "minor traffic violation" requires a waiver.

Of course, the only person who can say for sure is a recruiter.

best thing to do is have the recruiter run a 368 which is a criminal records check in the county of the offense... see what comes up.

If it was dismissed he should be good to go

Normally one alcohol incident is not a game stopper, theres more to the story he is not telling you. Like if he has no HS Diploma. They take GED(Good Enough Diploma) but they require a clean background.

Keep in mind from what I've been hearing 11x (infantry) is closed for FY2011.

                same thing with 68W (medic)

to OP . It depends on the type of DUI , if it was a Felony DUI then yeah there is a good chance its a DQ , but if its not then he might be able to get in after all his DUI classes are done , probation over ( if any) and court fees are paid. It also depends on how far his recruiter is willing to go with him.

However im not a recruiter so ill wait till Zorrm/Cav Trooper step in with the real info

If it was dismissed. And he has no probation he should be good. Alot of these recruiters are lazy. And is he going army or guard?, because state and federal do things different. If he had no hs make sure he has it or if not atleast 15 units of college. Army dont take ged holders anymore. Army guard still does tho. or If he wants to be a weekend warrior theres nothing wrong with that.

                    He's going Army.

Thanks for the advice. I reached out to Cav Trooper a little while ago - he hasn't gotten back to me.

Cav recently stepped down from recruiting , but Zorrm is still currently there

If it was dismissed, all it should take is a moral review (read NOT a waiver) and he should be good to go if that's his only charge.

It depends WHY it was dismissed. If he was found not guilty or the charges were untrue, he's fine. If they were dismissed after completing probation, classes, keep your nose clean, etc...it's STILL considered a conviction.

True, however with 1 DUI it is still waiverable, and one they frequently approve.
