DD214

I enlisted for 6 years. I did 4 years active and went straight into the Reserves and drilled monthly.
When I did my out processing after my 4 years active, I got a DD214.

After my first 6 years was up, I reenlisted while in the Reserves. I drilled for a couple of years and then resigned and went into IRR till my enlistment expired.

Should I have gotten another DD214?

I beleive they only give you a DD214 at the end of active service. Look at block 12, there is no section for current or net inactive service this period. If I'm wrong maybe some admin guru can correct me.

i don't think you get a DD214 from the Reserves when you leave. i think you get seperation orders. since it is not active duty.

Hey while your at it go to the court house and put that DD214 on file for free in case you ever loose it you can get a certified copy for free

Just remember, that when you put your DD214 in the county hall of records it is possible that someone can ask for a copy and steal your identity. I'm removing mine and placing it digitally on my file drive for safer keeping.

Give the reserve records branch of your branch a call. They have your service record after you're out. Also, the VA can request it for you. Find your nearest VA DAV rep. They'll be glad to help you out.

I have (2) DD214. One for my 4-year active duty commitment and a second one when I was re-activated during Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
