Marine pistol competition

I'm a reservist and I'm looking for information on Marine pistol matches, especially in regards to rules and regulations. Is the standard M9 used? What's the course of fire? Is being pistol qualed mandatory? (I'm not, at least not yet) How serious is the competition at the lower level matches?

I work part time at a range and have come to be a decent shot, I think I could do alright. I'd like to arm myself with some info before I bug my chain of command though.
