Get the packing list off goarmy, or futuresoldiers.com... AND BRING YOUR CELL PHONE...

I'm a recruiter, and thats what I send my guys off with.

Everyone that has come back said they got to use their phone

Don't bring a guitar like a couple of guys in my basic training flight. Bring a couple of pants, shirts and a jacket for the time you get an off base pass. Also don't forget to bring a couple of pictures of love ones - as your inspiration when it becomes a little tough. Whatever you do, don't bring nude pics of anyone and feminine looking clothing, unless you're a female that is. I'm thinking a lot has change since I've been through basic military training, but one thing I'm sure of there will be lots of screaming folks in stiff brim hats and boots with taps. Wipe the smile off your face and put your war face on. It's game time.

They made us throw ours away... We had to get the ones they recommended

I was RTC San Diego in 1989 and the running shoes that we were issued were from 1979. We were'nt running marathons but it sure would have been nice to have shoes that fit properly. My toes were all mashed up.

I went to MCRD San Diego in 1994. Anybody with new shoes didn't have to buy the red, white, and gold Nikes from 1983. My recruiter warned me beforehand.

I was there in 2000. I was wearing my running shoe when I went in. Couldn't wear it. Had to wear what they gave us.

My AF TI said there was no way someone could ever get an electric clean enough for inspection. That is, no matter how clean it was, even new out of the box, it was going to fail. I used wet-blade manuals for the first time ever....

My experience was in Army basic training a few years back. Honestly? The only thing I would buy would be phone cards and make sure you know how to use them. Buy a few and see which ones can make a phone call fastest because when you have a Drill Sgt giving you the chance to make that 45 second to a minute call at a pay phone, they will ONLY give you 45 seconds to a minute and when you are standing there trying to figure out how it works and listening to the automated instrustions and only able to say two or three words before having to hang up... it sucks
So.... phone cards! everything else I was able to buy and was FORCED to when they gave this little advance
Oh yeah, and Sharpies. To mark your ****.
                                Buy my EO Tech XPS3-0!!!
