    adopting a unit

first of all happy holidays to all those who serve or have served!

I was curious if there are still programs where people can adopt a unit and help send over supplies to deployed units for stuff like - batteries, lube, bore snakes, etc

    Donations

Im very sure there still is, you can contact the Marine Corps Community Services at Camp Pendleton and they can help you out with available programs.

You can also contact the USO and find out from them also.

While I was shopping online at Bass Pro, I noticed a little blurb they had about "Care Packages." For obvious security reasons, packaging of items sent to the troops follow strict guidelines. That would make it tough for individuals to send things, but probably groups like Blue Star Moms or the USO (mentioned above) have a better idea of what the procedures are.

It would be great if Calguns, as a group, could do something like this.

exactly my thoughts...but instead of sending things that WE (general public) might think they need, I'd like to correspond with a unit find out what they are short on, have issues procuring, etc.

perhaps if they weren't issued 3x fts magnifiers or red dots, we could work out a drive, fundraiser, etc to get them what they need and make sure they get home safely.

Operation Care and Comfort is a great program to get involved with/donate to.

          Check them out:

They've sent a ton of stuff out to a few different members on this board. They asked me how many soldiers in my platoon, and they sent packages to every soldier in my platoon each month we were overseas. There are some great people and organizations involved with this group.

Edit: I just read what you are looking for... We had some soldiers that belonged to different lodges (Moose, Lion, what have you) and those members would pitch in and buy a scope or whatever was needed with what ever money they could raise for it. That may be a place to start. Otherwise post up here and find out who is gone and just ask them and set something up yourself. I believe there are a few members here that are currently overseas and a few more preparing to leave.

Soldiers Angels does a good job. They have sent me and the rest of my platoon all kinds of stuff.

We sent blankets and DVDs to Marines in Afghanistan. They said they were cold and they wanted DVDs. We also included a bit of candy in every blanket. I can't find the picture right now, but the SSgt emailed me one of he and his troops holding up the some of the blankets we sent.
