    VFW and American Legion

Do you like your pay raises?
Do you like the New GI Bill?
Do you think congress men and women enacted this legislation out of the kindness of their heart?
They were lobbied and the people you have to thank are the men and women of the above organizations.
Give them your time and your leadership, pass this on to the troops you serve with, so they can do the same. Are looking for a network organization of military friendly businesses, and connections in everything from law enforcement to DOD, you have only to look in these organizations.

I've been an American Legion member for years. Buddy at work was telling me his old man was having health problems. He is a Viet Nam vet (Marine) and was exposed multiple times to agent orange.

He'd never dealt with the V.A. and was getting jerked around on getting prostate cancer taken care of. I called my old man (past Ohio Commander). He gave me the number to one of the state officers here. I think it took a little over a week and the buddy's old man was going to the bay area to get things taken care of.

They know exactly who to call, what to say etc. If you ever need help dealing with the V.A. use them even if you aren't a member you will more than likely get help.

I am a member of the VFW, although as I recall it was an Iraq/Afghanistan veterans group that lobbied for the post 9/11 GI Bill not the VFW/American Legion.

Always somebody gotta question known facts. They all work together

A concentrated lobbying effort by The American Legion and other veterans service organizations led to Monday’s Senate passage of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Improvements Act of 2010 (S. 3447). The legislation calls for expansion and improvement of federal college benefits for veterans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces on or after Sept. 11, 2001. A House vote on a similar measure is expected this week.

“This is great news,” American Legion National Commander Jimmie Foster said. “This bill rectifies the inequities and shortcomings of the well-intentioned but incomplete Post-9/11 GI Bill and makes it whole.

Throughout 2007 and 2008, IAVA played a lead role in creating and passing the Post-9/11 GI Bill, working closing with the other veterans groups, Senators Jim Webb (D-VA), Chuck Hagel (R-NE), John Warner (R-VA) and Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), and Representatives Peter King (R-NY), Ginny Brown-Waite (R-FL), Harry Mitchell (D-AZ), and Bobby Scott (D-VA)

Since 1997, the VFW has been lobbying Congress to update the 20-year-old peacetime Montgomery GI Bill with 21st century tuition realities. The VFW did this by testifying at more than 40 congressional committee hearings, through hundreds of VFW Legislative Committee member visits to every House and Senate office in Washington and within their home states, and through the grassroots lobbying effort of 2.3 million VFW and Auxiliary members at 8,300 VFW Posts nationwide.

Thank your neighbor and fellow gun owners for passing Prop 63. For that gun control is a winning legislative agenda.
