ACTIVE DUTY

The question is this my buddy is telling me that if a soldier is active duty he can own/buy full auto rifles regardless of where they live.I think hes b.s.ing but he was in the army.Can anybody bring more info to the table other then just here say.i already know about the atf forms/tax and other states allowing full autos.

I remember seeing something somewhere about AW waivers for active duty service members, depending on home of record and relocation due to service... Maybe they *meant* to refer to that. I'm not positive, but I think the intent was if you owned a weapon that was legal in Texas, and illegal in CA, and your home of record was Texas, but you're currently stationed in CA, you wouldn't have to adjust your weapon to fit compliance to CA law.

Again, I'm not a lawyer or anything, and need to verify this, but I do remember reading/hearing it somewhere...

You can apply for an assault weapon and a high cap magazine permit,but other than that, it reminds me of the guy that told me he put a 350 engine in his volkswagon bug, I asked him where he put the radiator and he said he tapped into the existing one.

This is correct. The only other people who are allowed to purchase their own equipment (firearms) is the Special Ops community.
FAW can be owned by service members if the state they were legal in the state that they enlisted in. There are a few special forms to fill out for the process.
If you have base housing this is fine. If you live into the BEQ you have to check your weapon into the armory.

If you took such a weapon out you would have to have copies of your letter of transmittal and a waiver showing that the firearm was legal for you to own in California.

No you are not allowed to go out and buy an FAW just because your from a state that allows it while you are serving in a state that does not.

Once had a co-worker tell me he was authorized to carry in all 50 states, on airplanes etc... He had 4 years in the Navy as an airman. I had 21 years. It's B.S.!!!

reminds me of a soldier trying to tell me he had a '62 Mustang..

The Mustang in 62 was primarily an off-road conveyance for one or two people. It did gave independent suspension but, the ride was both rough and erratic. There are none of the 1962 models in use today but some people have newer models they are quite happy with. The leather upholstery has been improved over the years and is significantly more comfortable than in the early years.
