    Identify this service 9mm round.

    Hello all,

My friend who is a Iraq war vet, gave me this strange bring back of a odd looking 9mm round. Never really told me what is was, other than it was used for Iraqi security police.

I'm trying to decide if this is a FMJ or a hollowpoint of some sort; i've never really seen anything like it to be honest.

    the pictures are pretttty blurry.

But it does look to a jhp of some sort. the cuts on the bullet indicate an expansion design upon impact.

It has a full lead core, with those cuts. Most hollow points i've seen have a actual hollow cavity; this is designed to expand on impacts like you said . I think this maybe due to the ban of hollow points by the geneva convention in the use of ammo.

Maybe Iraqi Security Police are not bound by the Geneva or Hague Conventions.

its neat that they are using the heavy metal free primers

those are generally for use in indoor ranges

It looks like wood putty in the hollow point.

It looks like Remington brass "R-P". The "HF" on the primer is as bohoki stated, heavy metal free aka lead free. The bullet - almost looks like a frangible??? Dunno.

Try using the macro setting on your camera, it'll help for the close-up shots:

But I'm thinking the brass looks like this:
