    National Guard GED program

Does someone on here know if it`s still active?
Rumors are that they`ve shut it down...

I never heard of a GED program before for military services. Maybe ask your question here. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=349924 Or chat with a recruiter here. http://www.goarmy.com/content/goarmy...h-us/chat.html

The National Guard GED Plus program was closed about a week ago. I'm a Guard recruiter.

Go to college, get 15 credits, or go to adult school and get a diploma.

Goes to show what I know...
                - I thought you couldn't be in today's .mil without HS/GED - or
                do high ASVABs override this?

And can't you just walk in somewhere and take a GED exam and get the ticket? I'd imagine it's run several times a year in various locales...

You cant be in the Mil without a HS diploma or GED. However, on occasion, they will open a program where they will send you to a prep course to study for a take the GED test, if you pass, you move on to your enlistment, if you dont, they kick you to the curb.

Nowadays, its much harder and Im frankly suprised that the NG even had it open at all.

The active duty counterpart to this program at FT Jackson has been shuttered as well. As I understand it, there are too many better qualified enlistees to justify it currently.

Will a proficiency exam work? Do they still do those?

The GED Plus program was a GREAT opportunity for some folks. They would enlist into the Guard, start getting paid for monthly drills (the Guard doesn't have a DEP program, the day you enlist is the day your military service starts, regardless of your basic training date), then they would ship to Arkansas where they would go through a two-week course teaching them the material that's on the GED test (they're all on active duty at this point, just like when their in Basic or AIT), at the end of this two-weeks, they would be given the GED exam (paid for by the Guard) and ship to Basic Training. This enlistment option was open for any MOS with the exception of Military Intelligence.

The Guard is all but impossible to get into right now, unfortunately. The FY just started and already we cannot enlist anyone with an ASVAB score below a 50, no GED-holders, continuation school graduates, California State High School Equivalency Exam...none of that. Zero tolerance for most law-violations, no waivers authorized for ANYTHING.

And the "word on the street" is that the Active Duty and Reserves are going to be using the School House in Little Rock for the time being to get their recruits GED's.
