Question to All Branches Precision Shooters/Rifleman/Snipers

This came up in another thread regarding CLP:
    Breakfree CLP for Cleaning

    So my question is:
What do combat soldiers use to keep their weapons clean. I'd like to hear both at home, and in the AO. Primarily by those who have deployed, and especially if you're combat arms where your decision is a life decision.

Can't help you as i don't have the experience, but I will say this - the product known as Break Free CLP is mentioned by name in many FMs I've read. Weather they actually use it or not, you'll have to find out from a deployed soldier. The .mil seems to endorse it, however.

I personally used Militec 1 on all of my issued weapons, from the M9 all the way up the Ma Duce, not once did I have any issues, just a little bit will do ya. By only lubing the wear points in the the weapons, it didn't give the sand and dust anything to cling to and thus not become an issue.

I know that sometimes we use whatever we can get, 99% of the time it is CLP. Yes Our Snipers do use it, but if they buy their own lube they use their stuff. We are issued CLP for use with M-16/M-4, 9mm, M-249 & M-240. Mk-19 gets LSA but thats cause its a different beast. In Iraq 06 and 07-08 I know our snipers that I worked with used CLP. I have used Miltec and some other stuff, as well as the Stuff that comes in the otis cleaning kits that is similar to sewing machine oil ( I have a bunch of the little tubes and use it on all my personal weapons now

I always used CLP on just about everything. I prefered LSA for the Machine guns though. In out humvees we always had a spray bottle full of CLP and a jug of LSA.

I have been out for more than a few years. For all small arms we had, CLP was what we used. I even have my 1993 copy of the Marine Battle Skills Training handbook, and CLP is called out for all but Arctic conditions. For under 0 F, they have LAW, Lubricating oil, Arctic Weather. I was never deployed though.

i used MILTEC on my M4 and on the M249 in the truck the Ma Duece got 10W oil in a water bottle along with a small paint brush to apply it.

MILTEC works great never had any problems with it while in Iraq.

HAHA, I feel ya brother....an adapt and overcome moment for us was using tubes of the black axel grease we got from the mechanics to keep the MK19's running....sometimes ya just gotta use what you can get your hands on..

Like everyone else here CLP has been the main stay for me for the last 12 years, MILTEC once in awhile and even ran across RBC (rifle bore cleaner) a couple of times but not often.

LSA is the primary for heavy guns (MK19's/M2's) most of the time, but again, I poured a lot of CLP on Ma Deuce since LSA was usually unavailable

For our 16's and 203's it was clp. For saw's and 240's it was a donkey dick with lsa. Our mortars I believe was clp.

A "Veteran" -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America," for an amount of "up to, and including his or her life."

I used CLP and Miltec when overseas.

Both served me well and never gave issues.

The key is to maintain your weapon properly, regardless of lube.

The fate of the wounded rest in the hands of the ones who apply the first dressing.

I prefer LSA for MG. Using CLP on a MG is suicide in my professional opinion. I've done several Mojave Vipers (Marines should know about this) as a Coyote and every time I do an inspection on MG and the Marine behind it, I always ask what type of lubricant they use. Most of them that uses a CLP spray bottle on their MG ends up somehow jamming or malfunctioning because CLP will dry that MG.

As for precision rifles/snipers, from what I hear from our STA guys they use CLP or miltec. Good luck!
For a combat soldier, the difference between success and failure is your ability to adapt to your enemy. The people that we deal with, they don't care about the rules. All they care about is a result. My job is to stop them from completing their objective, at all costs.
