    Grandson Joined

Mutch too the dismay of his parents, before graduating from hi-school my grandson inlisted in the USMC at 17 yrs. old.

I'm sure conversations went back and forth, but he prevailed.

He will be leaving for Parris Island 9/23/10, just got his orders.

    Thank God for patriotic Americans.

On a side note how did he end up at PI instead of MCRD, San Diego?
May I always be the type of person my dog thinks I am

He is in for a very eye-opening experience. 17 is really young to be joining the military. Best of luck to him!

Will he be finishing high school before he ships to BC? I sure hope so.

No diploma? Are you sure about that or is he still on the hook to graduate prior to heading out to basic? My friend's son just graduated boot camp last Friday and he had to go back to a continuation school and get his diploma (not GED) so that he could enlist - and this was for a 0311.

He graduated from hi school in June.

                Lives in conneticut.

He's being doing weekend camps, in the Noreast.

My wife went east for his Hi-School graduation. The SGT that enlisted him went thru his enlistment just for family members.

My wife was impressed but with mixed feelings.

I enlisted when I was 17. You have to graduate high school first. So he is in the Delayed Entry Program. At least he should be lucky that he does have all them hill in a smelly swamp.

A brother of mine did his basic at Parris Island right out of high school from here in SoCal... He WANTED to go there for basic, and an uncle who was a DI at Pendlelton made sure it happened...

Our dad (originally from TX) did his basic there back in the '50s, and I think that was part of the reason he asked to go there.
