Yea our new uniform, ABU's suck. Hot and heavy, like the old BDU winter-weights.

I'm a recruiter so I spend a good majority of the day in public and in ACU's. It's part of my job. And as soon as my shift ends, I change clothes right there at the office before I leave. Not only is it more comfortable a drive home but you have to ALWAYS be 'on' when you're out in uniform. You have to always be polite, call everyone 'Sir' or 'Ma'am' and constantly check yourself before you do ANYTHING...even something as benign as itching your nose for too long can make the uniform look bad. It's really a relief when I can go out "normal".

And since I conduct MYSELF the way that I do when I'm in uniform, I'm VERY critical when I see someone else out in uniform. And I WILL say something if I see them acting like an ***.

You need to spread the word to your fellow recruiters especially the E-6's and E-7's that show up at Sacramento City College hangin' out smokin' and jokin', not wearing their headgear in public, standing around with their hands in their pocket and wearing sunglasses that are WAY out of reg.

Yeah...there's a crap load of vets on that campus and we pay attention and have e-mailed the CSM for recruiting in Northern California.

ETA: Especially one particular E-7 recruiter...that's never deployed and wouldn't pass AR 600-9 on his best day.

That's why us Marines say "Army gloves."
Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

In the Coast Guard, like everyone else has said, its okay to stop for gas, get groceries, eat out after work, etc... But, you're not allowed to consume alcohol while in uniform in public. Especially in your dress uniform. They call it a working/operational uniform for a reason.

                    1003. RESTRICTIONS ON WEARING UNIFORMS

                    1. Members of the Marine Corps and Marine Corps Reserve, including retired Marines, are prohibited from wearing the Marine Corps uniform while engaged in any of the following activities, functions or circumstances unless specifically authorized by the CMC (PA):

                    a. Soliciting funds for any purpose from the public outside of a military base or establishment.

                    b. Participating in any type of show or event which is commercially sponsored for advertising purposes, where it could be implied or construed that the Marine Corps "endorses" the product advertised.

                    c. "Endorsing" commercial products in such ways as to involve the uniform, title, grade or rate, or in any way establish or imply their military affiliation with such products.

                    d. Appearing or participating in any event in public that would compromise the dignity of the uniform.

                    2. Whenever any doubt exists as to the propriety of wearing the Marine Corps uniform under circumstances similar to those enumerated above, specific requests should be directed to the CMC (MCUB/PA). For further information on those laws and directives, which govern the authority to wear the uniform, refer to chapter 11.

some also get f#cked with for army gloves (hands in pockets), breaking step, smoking on the street, holding hands/gum chewing.

Those are restrictions that cover ANY uniform.

Generally, a service uniform or service dress uniform can be worn in "ordinary" public situations off bas, while a "utility" uniform (BDUs, "fatigues", ACUs, DCUs, flight suits, coveralls, etc.) is only authorized to be worn in a work environment, and in limited situations related to work.

And that's why us in the Army's parents aren't related.

As for Marines, the wearing of civilian attire is strictly a priviledge granted by the base commander. Come to think of it, even for civilians, it is a priviledge that they even have clothes, courtesy of all members of the U.S. Armed Services. How bout' them apples?

That's actually not for our safety, it yours. If you happen to be in the way of some uniformed Marines, it could turn out bad. As for the cars, That's also for your safety too. LOOK OUT! BEEP, BEEP!!!

Thats true. It's a privilege.. I remember when I was in Japan, and if we wanted to go off base, we would have to use our C dress uniform.
