    Restrepo

Anyone seen this one yet? Any opinions? I'm a civilian but have much respect for our service-men and women, and would definitely value your opinions most on this one. I'm going to see it either way and make up my own mind, but just wanted to hear from you guys first.

I just looked it up, I pretty much stay out of current things. To be honest, I don't like it. I don't like any media down range. Civilians need to stay out of our buisness and quit trying to interject their ideas. On that note, the last couple iraq/afghan films I've seen have portraid the military unfavorabley.

Restrepo is work done by Sebastian Junger, I highly doubt this documentary has any sort of bias. I've read half of his book called War, and it brings out a lot of what happens amongst the men themselves to light. Junger's work doesn't portray the military unfavorably, it pictures how war and hardship can bond men together.

A lot of support can be garnered by good works like his book. I have yet to see Restrepo, but from the interviews and previews I've seen with him, it looks worthy enough to check out.

I saw an interview with the director and some clips. Honestly I am not sure, I might go see it. I was in Afghanistan When they filmed it and picked up guys who got hurt in these areas. When I saw the "clips" from the interview it saddened me, and I did not sleep well at all that night. That being said I appreciate what those guys go through and want to understand their side. I would always thank those guys when I got to pick them up conscious. After typing this i will probably go see it with my buddy who directly supported those guys in the korengal area. If anyone sees it let me know what you thought.

The book was terrific. Can't wait to see the film.

Unfortunately, the book reminds me a lot of the bad old days...too many higher ups suffering from rectal-cranial inversion and the guys on the line paying for others' stupidity...

I just went to the site and watched the trailer and it looks like it will be a very good movie. I am retired now and will definitely be going to see it.
Having said that, I personally feel that there should be NO media personnel downrange. 99% of them have some type of agenda and are only too willing to bend the facts to meet their own needs. I avoided them like the plague during my career and have developed a hatred for them all. Remember "Generation Kill"? Yes, I retired from 1st Recon Battalion.

i went and saw it last night in Irvine. I thought it was good. Its not political and doesn't push an agenda at all. They just show what happened and how the soldiers endured and the circumstances they were in. I think it just brings to light to americans safe in there cushy lives what our guys do for them everyday downrange.

Saw it last night near Encino, good film, well done. Made you open your eyes and see things from a different perspective. As said earlier, no agenda, just lasting impacts. Thank the next soldier you see. They give so much, and they never know when or if . . .
