Hey guys, I see these "in the service" threads in a lot of the forums i'm in and just wanted to offer my experience to those who want it.
I enlisted in the Army Reserves in 1997 and was enlisted for 9 years. Made Staff Sergeant and did my first deployment then. I decided that I wanted to make the Army a permanent part of my life so I decided that I would commission and did that in 2006. I've been in the admin world my whole career, enlisted and officer, and just finished my second deployment as a battalion S1. I've also been working as a MILTECH in my reserve unit for the last 5 years or so.
I'm not putting all this up so I can brag, just so you can see what experience I've had. I see way too many Soldiers in the Army that are completely unaware of the benefits that are available to them or living with pay or personnel issues that are a simple fix just because they don't know that it can be fixed or the benefits are there.
Feel free to add to this thread so that other people who are thinking of joining know what is out there and what they can do to stay ahead of the game. I'm sure that many people will join in and share their experience as well. The thing I've always loved about the Army is that there are so many people from so many parts of the world working together that someone always has a better answer, I'd like this to be the electronic version of that.
