I started wearing mine on the last trip out, but I didn't routinely have to listen to the radio. I find hearing what's on the radio hard enough without earplugs in.
Nice thing about tanks, the VIC-III helmets have an external amplifier with shut-off over a certain level.

Yes, for the most part it falls on the NCO to conduct PCC and PCI checks before missions, this includes checking for eye and ear protection. As an NCO your also responsible for making sure you soldiers use it. I always wore at least one ear plug on mission and peltor in vic's and required my soldiers do the same.Comment
