    2 possibilities, only 1 choice...

I'm having an opportunity to further my military career but have only 2 (or 3) choices...

    What do you guys think?

Golden Knights: 4 yr commitment, no commission (NCO's on the team) - No advancement from my grade E6

Commission in the Army Nurse Corps: further military career, forfeit chances of joining the GK team

Golden Knights - 4 years - then commission (extending commission 4 years)

Poll is up now. It wouldn't let me write much, haha.

What do you want? Wanna jump out of airplanes for a living or help fix broken Soldiers? Both will be rewarding in their own ways, so it really depends on you.

Which do you think makes the biggest contribution to the war effort? GK's are cool, and if they have deployed then jump away, if you havent deployed, maybe do your part?

I would have more respect for an officer that is a mustang and that has a combat deployment under his belt, than an officer that hung out in the GK's and never deployed. Just my .02

Absolutely no disrespect intended, but I think every service person needs to deploy before they go into some non-deployable status.

whichever one you'd rather do, do that one. not trying to be a smart @$$, i'm dead serious. You never know if the opportunity will be there next year or even next month. Go with the path you want to take now, don't ever rely on being able to come back to it because it may not be there next time.

Most civilization is based on cowardice. It's so easy to civilize by teaching cowardice. You water down the standards which would lead to bravery. You restrain the will. You regulate the appetites. You fence in the horizons. You make a law for every movement. You deny the existence of chaos. You teach even the children to breathe slowly. You tame.

I say you go with the GKs and then commission afterward. You're rocking a CMB, so it's not like you're trying to avoid deployment or anything. I think it's a rad opportunity and you should take it. Soldier medic warrior spirit.

The nursing route will mean bigger bucks for you down the road. Jumping out of airplanes is cool, but will do nothing for your post-military career.

A 4 year GK commitment is a long time away from your key skill. Forget any thought of being on a demonstration team & being able to stay current in nursing as it's NOT going to happen.

How long will it take to catch up & become current?
4 years + OCS, basic school, etc will mean close to 5 years away from treating patients.

What brings you more joy? What do you want to do with the rest of your life?

Having worked with Aircraft Maintainers, there is no such thing as a perfectly good airplane.

If you haven't seen it with your own eyes,
or heard it with your own ears,

It's hard to answer this question without knowing too much info about you. Are you already GK? If it was just me and I had your qualifications...I'd do 4 years GK and then commission. At least after 4 years...you would've not regretted trying something out what you've always wanted to do.
