    MRE go bad after opening?

Sis got a BBq pork and Clam Chowder MRE from a friend and she opened the outter plastic bag. i know it sounds dumb. but will the pork in the carboard go bad? or is it in its own sealed bag as well? would like to know if i need to try it for dinner soon or it can go in my pack for camping.

and whats the best way to eat it, any suggestions?

they're bad from the factory since they all taste like ***.
You should be fine. The outside bag is to hold it all together and I don't think it does much to keep it all from going bad.
Best way to eat it is to get it as hot as possible. Basically while it heats knead it while you eat other stuff.
Or hold your nose while you eat it.
I can't have tabasco til this day b/c of MRE's.

I just ate that same mre for dinner tonight. The clam chowder was good, the bread sucked (as always), cookies were a treat though. You should be fine

The meal is sealed in another bag inside of the cardboard box. You can use the heater if ya like, I always ate mine cold justs due to time constraints in the field, plus the heaters kinds stink. Although the do make pretty good pocket warmer on the really crappy days

I've tried the newer MREs - I liked the ones from the 80s much better. I usually did the same as desmark6 - just eat 'em cold out of the bag. When we had time, geting someting like beef stew and a cheese pack, and cooking that in a canteen cup was pretty good

Clam chowder meal is one of the few main meals I'll actually eat. It's pretty dang good!

Bad.....as in....it gets worse? Not possible.

Seriousness aside, Inside the cardboard box is another bag and should have expiration date on it, which is about 10 years from manufacturing date.

dude are you nuts. the beef patty was nasty. chili mac is the one that has lasted the longest. i do miss the choloclate cookie from back then. the dried fruit was good. but the menu choices weren't that good.

They all suck. Best way to eat them is to throw them away and get yourself some real food or throw them away and skip a few meals until you can get real food lol. If you HAVE to eat them... well hot or cold they will still taste like ***

Ugh, that clam chowder is terrible. Eating clams in the desert is never advised.
