Marine uniforms - knee/elbow pad inserts?

Hey, Marines. Has anyone used either of these products:

(not sure if these would even fit the uniform which is why I ask...)
    and
Cheaper Than Dirt! is America's Ultimate Shooting Sports Discounter, and we live up to that title. Expect bulk ammo deals, discounts, gun care accessories and more

(also, if anyone has any input on the elbow pad inserts by tru-spec that would help too)

If so, how did they fit inside our uniform, and did they work well for kneeling on rocks/tree roots etc.

Not a marine but army and I used some army issue ones like the ones from cheaperthandirt. I started using them after my old kneepad straps lost its elasticity. They're very lightweight and you'll forget that they're there. Definitely better than nothing (you'll still feel the rocks) but doesn't replace the traditional kneepads in terms of protection. Looks funny as hell and flat when you first started using them but after breaking in, looks alright. Just make sure your uniform fits, especially the pants where the knee patches are at your actual knees. A lot of people like extra long pants so their knee patches are way below their knees and the pads become useless to them.

LOL. Thats very true socal, it does look funny as hell at first but honestly, I like them better than the actual knee pads that are currently being issued. They are lighter, dont fall off, dont cut off circulation, you rarely have to adjust them and if you are just going down in gravel to small rocks, they will do thier job. And to think they are just a sheet of cheap foam
      Buy my EO Tech XPS3-0!!!

Note: I did not write the above article.

The foam pad things don't really offer the level of protection I'd personally desire from a knee pad. They might be fine for when you gently plant your knee into the ground, but as soon as you have to get moving you'll quickly wish you had something more substantial. I also like the ability to take mine on/off, or at least push them down, as desired. You can't really do that with the inserts. The USMC issue knee/elbow pads do kinda suck, but a lot of people don't wear them correctly either. I had been using a pair of Alta knee pads years before the Corps issued anything out, and they're still running strong for me. They're still among the best designed I've come across. Who'd think that having one non-elastic strap, and one elastic strap, could make all the difference?

Right. I'd prefer not to have my circulation cut off when I'm in the kneeling for 10-15 minutes straight and have to stay focused on other stuff. That's why I'm asking about these.

No Marines have used either of these?

hey brother...honestly issued gear is usually not that great, especially since the corps doesnt care if your comfortable or not, but i would just go out and get some that your comfortable with, in iraq thats what saved my knees when i had to dismount from my tank.

I made no assumption, I merely pointed that out after several responses. Also since when did the Corps get so sensative. But damn your got me really good gillafunk, dont you think you went a little over the top though especially since you don't know me and all.

                EXACTLY

                wow...magically the posts just dissapeared???

I think the Corps gets more and more sensitive every few years. However, once they stopped issuing boots that could be polished...it all REALLY went down hill.

Funny; I tried wearing knee and elbow pads when we did CAX out in 29 Stumps. I got the riot act from Team, SqdLrd, PltSgt for being an 'individual'. I said Im a SAW gunna, I HAVE TO shoot from knee or prone or the range officers piss and moan. After coming back to the squad bay with all kinds of fooked up bloody kneeds I just wore the pads under the uniform.

The girlfriend puts the kneed pads to good use ;-)
Im just a doode, playin' a doode, disguised as another doode

I bet they would fit just fine. If not, you can always cut a little off to make them fit.

I am in the army but out uniforms are probably the same, I cut the issue inserts just a little and they fit a lot better in their slots. Before I cut them, they slid out of their holders every so often and it drove me nuts.

                      Requiem,

They're just the foam inserts...or at least that's what I have. Yes, we're issued them.

Bro, after I left the Corps and they didn't let me back in due to my full sleeve, I went USAR. What a world of differance. I was in for a shock as to what we were issued in the Corps as opposed to the issue in the USAR or active for that matter.

You can buy them for about a dollar at the clothing and sales. So, that should speak for their quality and usefulness.

I just got my initial issue here and I got my rfi the other day. RFI is the issue before you get deployed. I have so much stuff I don't even know what to do with it all.

The initial issue was two duffel bags, an assault pack, and a ruck sack full. The RFI was a duffel bag full and I am missing almost another full duffel bag of things they were out of in my size. This is on top of all the other army issued junk I already have sitting around.
