    Portable Armored Wall Systems

Innovations in materials, stealth technology, and intelligence are changing the way we fight wars. Discover the latest in military science and technology.

Anybody heard about/seen these? They're portable, erector-set like armored panels with ballistic windows. I came across this article and was trying to figure out a good use for these. They take 4 Marines 10 minutes to assemble (without tools, I'll give you that), which to me means that it would only have very limited uses. I'm sure a pile of sandbags or a HESCO barrier would do the trick. (This is coming from a civilian engineer so please tell me if I'm missing something)

In other news, Microsoft refused to sell the Army XBOX 360's to use as training tools because they didn't want their gaming consoles associated with weapons (aren't all the best XBOX games shooters?). They also didn't want to take a loss on the systems. On a related note, the DoD purchased an additional 2200 Playstation 3's to power one of their supercomputers because it's the cheapest way to upgrade it.

I can see barriers such as that being quite useful for locations such as embassies or bases in the states were they may not always want to look as "scary" or fortress like but in an emergency situation may need quickly deployable defenses.

6 foot high sandbags requires alot of sand and alot of bracing, how thick would the base of a six foot high sandbag barrier have to be to stay upright?

Aside from the extra transport needed to move these things, I think it's a great upgrade.

Saw something like that at the shot show, can't remember the vendor, 4" thick panels that looked like the conning tower of a sub and apparently small arms proof... why one would would want Rogers hang around somewhere that is required is beyond me. In a similar category was a ridged ballistic curtain made of 3x5 panels that weighed under 20 lbs each and could stand freely or attach to the side of a car, much more versatile in my opinion, more like a sheild wall than a Bunker erector set. But again, why be there?
