ok so i looked around on the internet and im not to sure what i get. my questions is for both the guys in the marines and the army. when i was in the marines we used the alice and molle pack. i want to know what they are currently using for both branches. as im looking to use one for my shtf/emergency kit. especially since i will have gear and crap for me and the wifey.

Well the standard in the army seems to be molle now..The issued LBE is a molle type vest, which comes as a "riflemans set" or something of that nature, basically comes with a acu vest, 2-3 different magazine carrying pouches, grenade and flash bang pouch, "camelbak" type hydration system,a rather big pouch, fits an mre pretty nicely..
However if youre thinking shtf, why not go plate carrier vest with molle attachments? I wouldnt vest too much interest into what the corps/army is using,Id go whatever works best/is most comfortable for you and the wife.
        Embrace the suck.

not trying to get the vest. trying to a pack. i just got a molle pack today but now i need the sustainment pouches. i heard the army molle one is better because of the frame is more durable. just trying to see what the differences are currently.

the new USMC ILBE pack is comfy compared to the old crap.
            Holds a lot as well.

The exact USMC pack isn't for sale, however the company that manufactures them, Arcteryx, makes a pack that is essentially the same thing. You can find that at http://leaf.arcteryx.com/Product.aspx?Mens/Packs/Tango

Personally, I find it to be too padded, and for my height(5'5) the portion of the pack that is supposed to sit on the small of the back is more on the top of my ***. That's with the standard issue though, if you go out and buy one from Arcteryx I'm sure you can get an appropriate frame for you. Don't let my gripes fool you though, it's still quite a decent pack compared to the molle rucks we used to use(although I still have a soft spot for them).

Personally if I were to get a pack, assuming your budget isn't too limited, I'd recommend either Kifaru or Mystery Ranch. I have experience with both companies' products on deployments and was overall quite satisfied.

+1 to Grass Ninja. Arcteryx makes the current pack for the USMC. Nice to see an internal frame pack, but if you still like the old-school stuff, I'd go for the Alice Mountain Ruck over the Molle stuff.

But if you want the cool of cool, Kifaru and Mystery Ranch is full of win.

You've already bought your pack. But check out Kifaru.net

They have some good substainment pouches (heck, they have great packs too).

As far as the Army frame lasting longer, Molle went to Molle II, and now they are still *****ing and whining because the plastic frames break. And they are right. (^_^).

London Bridge also makes some good gear. And Arcteryx makes some awesome gear!!!
