    Clearance issue

A coworker of mine got out of the Army a while ago and is interested in joining the private range I am a member of. To be a member though you need to be an NRA member. He says that he can't join the NRA, it would compromise his security clearance. He is (or was and is considering going back into) the Reserves. I am not sure what exactly his clearance is, but he was an MP, so at least that level. Is this legit or has someone given him some FUD along the way?

    Thanks.

Makes no sense to me. However, the Clearance types are notorious for rejecting clearances and not saying why. (Or, at least, not granting them). If he wants to stay on the side of caution, not being in the NRA can't hurt.

But for the record, I would have no interest in joining a range/club which requires that I have NRA membership.

Completely false...at this point. I personnally know multiple people who hold high level clearances and are members of the NRA, both military and civilians at that.

I have a TS with more compartments than Jesus and I'm a member.

I have a TS/SCI clearance and had no issues at all while I was in the Army. I still have no issues at all now that I am out and maintain the same clearance working for the same people as a contractor.

Thank your neighbor and fellow gun owners for passing Prop 63. For that gun control is a winning legislative agenda.

I am an NRA member and I am working on getting a clearance with the Army and that has not been an issue.

Aside from myself also having a TS and being a life member, being a 35F I worked the S-2 shop enough to know that has no bearing whatsoever on your security clearance. He was probably being a little paranoid due to the right wing extremist report that homeland insecurity released.

I got a TS too. no problems with having an FFL or any memberships to clubs. About the only thing to not get cleared on is if you have lots of trips to Columbian jungle vacation spots or if you know somebody in congress.
