    SoCal ANG units?

    What's up fellow calgunners.....

I'm a Navy vet with 11 years of active service. I want to join the ANG.

Curious to see what kind of units there are in SoCal.

And yes, I've visited all the recruiting websites, but they are very vague about what units there are and what positions they have available.

I worked on Navy H-60's for my entire 11years of service. Currently I'm a civilian UAV operator.

A friend of mine was telling me about a payload operator job on the Predator UAV which sounds really cool. I'm also interested in: Flight engineer, load master, airborne refueling, flying crew chief.

What kind of stuff do they have up at March air reserve base?

If you're interested in the Army National Guard, there's a UH-60 unit at Los Alamitos. Your Navy experience would be greatly valued.

I think they got AH-1F also. All the heavy stuff like CH-47s are up in Stockton

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there are any AH's at Los Al (other than the Cobra they use for static displays).

Is the OP interested in the Army or Air Guard?

I am not 100% sure what March has currently.
They did have a C17 unit and a KC135 unit. I haven't been out there or talked to anyone from there in quite a while.

                Affirmative.

We were supposed to get AH-64D's, but alas, California's budget went down the drain and the Army restructuring negated the need for an attack helicopter squadron in CA.

I'm not sure. You can contact the unit there or go through an Army Guard recruiter.

IIRC, 1-18 Cav used to have an Air Cav Squadron.. But that's long gone.

I'm not a 15 series (Aviation) so if there's any here, please chime in. But I believe you start off as an Aviation Mechanic and if you do well, they may pick you to be a Crew Chief.

Channel Islands has C130Js as I recall. From what I heard, the newer J models have a loadmaster but no flight engineer. I don't exactly know where they are located though.

As stated above, March ARB has C-17s and -135s. They have 1-2 loadmasters on the C-17s. 135s have a boom operator, loadmaster, and possibly a flight engineer.

From my limited experience with heavies, the only airframes with flying crew chiefs are some C-17s, C-5s, and KC-10s. Correct me if I'm wrong!

                      Hope it helps somehow.

Creech AFB near Las Vegas has UAVs, but I don't know if they have Air Force Reserve or ANG units that operate them.

Yeah, sorry for all the replies, but I'm too lazy to edit them.
I don't know if you are aware but ANG and USAF Reserve have two different recruiters.

Both of which, I'm having an impossible time finding/contacting/getting to call me back. I don't know if they are overstrength and don't care or really despise prior service or what, but phone calls go nowhere and listed recruiting offices are nonexistant or empty.

I don't mean to thread-jack, but if anyone has an ANG or USAFR recuiter contact, please let me know.

PS. There is an ARNG unit I believe in San Diego and an ANG unit in Riverside that operates UAVs. IIRC, in the AF, UAV operators are pilots, while in the Army they are either Enlisted or Warrants.

March has Reserves that fly C17s and a Guard unit that had KC135 but now flies predators. First guard unit to do so. They have one of the only predator schools outside of creech. They are looking for sensor operators. PM me for contact info. The 163rd is a good unit.
