what you do while not deployed?

So when your not deployed what does your job entail?Do you still have to report to your unit everyday or is it 5 days a week?Do you do PT everyday and train in your field?do you do small arms drills on a regular basis? Just curious as to what being in the army will entail while not deployed

Depends on your unit, commanding officer, first sgt, MOS. It varies greatly. are you doing active duty? what MOS? where are you getting stationed.

        19k?

Your daily routine will consist of this:
        • PT.
        • Motorpool.
        • Bar.

I kid, of course. You'll actually just be doing motorpool

Obviously, I have no idea I'm just a medic. But I do know that troops of every MOS in mechanized units spend a lot of time in the motorpool doing vehicle maintenance.

While I was not in the active Army, I was in the CARNG and,in a messed up unitat that I cannot tell you about Army life. But while I was in the active Marine Corps. Also in a MOS tied to a motorpool,While in 7th Motors,1st FSSG,it was just work all day every day.Very minimal Field Training, lots of PT and more work, then Bars and parties. Then later at 3rd Tracks 1st Marine Division, it was all about the basics at the motorpool and then to the field for all things tactical about my MOS and My unit's job, tons of PT then bars and parties.Hope this helps in some sort of way.

As stated previously it all depends on your unit and your MOS. Count on daily PT!!

Sweeping dirt, picking up cigarette butts and if your lucky you might get to mop the floor especially on field day.... and every other day!!

Most units have training cycles, and post-deployment usually means assimilation of new troops, weapons qualification, maintenance, inspections of gear and quarters, TDY for schools, more maintenance and lots of PT. Off-duty you can count on plenty of partying.

If you're thinking of being a tanker, add more maintenance and table gunnery post-deployment.

A few months after deployment, you will most likely start training for the next go-round. The training will intensify as you get closer to deployment, and it will actually be a relief to finally get there. Then it's about staying alive and watching your buddy's back.

Also, keep in mind that there are no tanks in Afghanistan and VERY few in Iraq. So chances are you'll be doing almost anything but tanking overseas. I just got back from Iraq with an Armor company, ask me how I know!

depends on your unit and command especially. Battalion and above can really screw up alot of things.

I am rated as a C-130 pilot. At home we do practise flying for low levels to fake paratroop drops. We do occasional real paratroop drops at Army bases all over. And then some random cargo runs or presidential transport stuff here and there. When we dont fly, we usually dont come into work. Depends on your job and how many pilots fill that job slot.

IN a deployed location we fly every other day, making 20hr days typically. Running medevac, transport or 'other' missions all over the theater. If its bad weather or no work, we just workout and play Xbox. If you're smart, working on a masters degree online is a good use of time too.
